Any Canadians ever rent DVC points from someone?

Yes, you can get the dining plan but the person you rent from must make all of the arrangements and same rules apply - must be for all nights of stay for all persons in party and thedre are no discounts.

They also have to book your ME.

Is there a list somewhere that tells you how many points is needed for what dates and which resort?

Can you combine points from 2 different owners?

Meaning, let's say you need 300 points for your stay but you can't find one DVC owner with that many.

We'd be interested in a 2 bedroom villa, but will need a lot of points as we typically stay 10-14 days.

Wow what a great price!
How much per point was that?

I noticed that the highest price per point that a DVD member pays in 2009 (for maintenance fees) is 6.50us I think, so I figure anything over that and they are making money on their investment, so I'm looking for cheap points.

I doubt you would able to get it for $6.50 a point. Don't forget DVC cost thousands to get in plus the annual maintenance fee. I always used up my point. But if I ever have any extra, I rather let in expire than give it away for $6.50 each.

I don't expect to get it for 6.50. I'm just saying that that is what the highest maintenance fee is per point.
I do understand that the buy in price is also another expense for the buyer.

All I was meaning is that there ARE members out there that dont mind selling for cost or just above (I've been told) because its better than letting them go to waste. At least your getting your maintenance fee back.

For those that have been members for awhile, after several trips, they have pretty much "paid" off their buy in price (taking into coinsideration what they WOULD have spend on those vacations as opposed to what they did), am I saying that right?

So yeah, I know its not common, but there are people that do rent for just above cost.

Hi,
I have rented points from a member before. I paid with paypal. It was a smooth, easy transaction. I am also a dvc member, this was before we bought our points. Two things you must remember:
1)DVC member site will not give you any information. That is unnerving! I borrowed points from someone and had the reservation connected and I could not get any info or make any room requests. The member that had the points had to do all the requests. If you want to purchase the dining plan be sure to have the member request that ahead of time.
2)You can check into the member on the web. Orange County has timeshares registered as property. You can find out how many points the member has
3)the member should send you a confirmation letter from disney before you pay the balance.
I hope this helps,
Deanna

thank you for all the information...Awesome. I am looking into this now.:thumbsup2

and then we bought!
It was really easy and luckily rented from 2 wonderful people. I don't think we'll ever rent out or points as we tend to use them and/or treat family members to trips. We are not intending on doing our annual trip next year so we ended up booking 4 rooms this fall and taking some friends with us.
We rented 4 or 5 years ago and paid $8 - $10 /point ... i would expect with the economy, that the price of renting would go up as well.

Sorry Crystal, I'll let my points expire before I rent them for $6.50. Even $10 a points is a bargain.

I for one would also never rent my points for less than $10 a point. I would sooner give them to a deserving charity or the less fortunate. If anyone can get them for less, that is great because everyone loves a deal. Chances are that points that are rented that cheap are points that are developer points or ones that will expire within a month or so. I just would'nt get my hopes up to high thinking that you will get points for $7.00. If you do, count your blessings.

I agree with what you are all saying in terms of expiration of points rather than renting them below average rent rate... however, I don't think she was necessarily asking for a hand out. There are many people looking for a deal, she just asked.
I believe that DVC is a priviledge that we pay for so our families can have easily obtained vacations and life long memories... I think someone expecting to make a deal or even hoping for one, rubs some the wrong way.
I feel like is being flamed a bit for an inquiry... I wanna feel the love people..:lovestruc

No flaming intended. I also love a deal . What I was getting at is instead of selling them for a small amount above maintenance fees, do a donation to some organization for a deserving family, church/ school raffle or childrens wish foundation. Not only do you get self satisfaction but also a tax receipt may also be involved. I dont really think anyone was flaming the original poster, just did not want them to be disappointed if a good deal did not pan out.

Thanks for posting your question, I am presently considering the same option but am a little leary with all the warnings about checking references etc. before going ahead with someone. I've been looking at trip advisor and on here to figure out where my family of 5 should try and stay. we have never stayed at a disney resort and are going in jan of 2010 for a convention in the orlando area so of course disneyworld is a must I thought it would be fun to experience the resort if the price is right, any favorites I was considering the Animal Kingdom lodge or the beach villas??
Thanks

DVC family has 16 pts available that must be used by the last day of May 2009. Points for rent at $9 US per point. Please contact us for more information - PM here and we will contact you.

Have a magical day!

IMHO even at $10-$11 a point is still a bargain. Our up coming trip in July requires 210 pts for a AKV savanna view studio for 13 nights. I just checked the rack rate for the same room for the same period cost $5850. For anyone who want the same reservation by renting points at $11 per point would cost $2310 which is like 60% off.
