Any Canadian DVCers who rent their points?

Any person who has points to rent can get an iron clad contract through Davids rentals and receive $13 U.S./point so I can not see many Canadians willing to rent their points at a cheaper rate. Having said that, is there not a branch/agent of Davids Rentals based out of London, Ontario. I would try that route as it would save certain transaction fees. Good Luck

Davids is located in London, but does not rent in Canadian. Who said anything about renting for a cheaper rate? I didn't say anything about renting at a cheaper rate, just in Canadian dollars.

Ouch. I did not say that you wanted them cheaper, my point was the contract from Davids where they assume the responsibilities instead of renting points to someone over the internet. IMHO, it just seems safer. No disrespect at all. As I said, Good Luck.

ALC571...Sorry....I did say that. I had read a previous post in this thread where you used an example of what you paid. My bad. My point was the Contract with Davids is that they assume the responsibilities if thngs don't work out. JMHO but it seems safer. Again, Sorry.

But isn't that what you implied whey you said "Because our dollar sucks :)" "The exchange saved me a lot of money, plus the foreign transaction fee."

The OP did not come out and say that she wanted points cheaper, just to avoid the U.S. Fees which can between CC and bank exchange fees reach 5% or more and at $1,500 can save you $75.00 minimum . I always look at wYs to save money

Concerning the foreign exchange rate fee(on top of the currency conversion), you can find a credit card that does not charge it. We got our Amazon Visa before our last trip because there was no forex fee.

This is what I was referring to. My AMEX charges me 2.5% on top of the exchange rate for any transaction done in USD.

So since we have a U.S. account and Visa we would not have this fee. Whew!

No worries :)

We have both the Amazon Visa and the Sears Mastercard that don't charge the foreign transaction fees. However, in order for me to take advantage of the trip insurance with my AMEX, I am required to put at least 80% of my trip on my AMEX. A DVC stay would be the majority of our cost, so it would need to be paid for on our AMEX - which has the additional 2.5% foreign transaction fee.

Just to update $13 is just for key resorts and more then 7 months out. It is 11.30 for others and all that are under 7months out since all points are equal then. This is why some of us like to rent ourselves. Dave's is great, I have rented my points with him. Now I put them with him and the open market at the same time to increase my odds.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but I'm actually interested in renting DVC points too next year in September - for my honeymoon!! :lovestruc

However, I had NO idea renting DVC points was a thing until literally this morning. So I feel like there's a lot to learn about this whole process.
Congrats. Depending on when in September and where you should be ok with renting even at 7 months.
