Any Canadian DVCers who rent their points?

Just wondering if this might be an option for us. Looking at June 8-13, 2016 in a Poly studio.

Thanks!

Any reason you want a Canadian renter?

I would look on the rent/trade board. Good luck!

Because our dollar sucks :)
I've rented points from a friend for our trip next month, and was able to pay her in Canadian dollars. The exchange saved me a lot of money, plus the foreign transaction fee.

ah yes. Ideal. I imagine that most renters would rent in USD because they're paying their dues in USD, no?

I guess that would depend on the price... If someone was paying $700 USD for their dues (equaling $917 CDN), but renting to me for $1000, how would the dollar matter?

I'm interested in this too. By the way, we just stayed in a Poly studio last month. Very nice! (But bring items to help you organize as there's no dresser for clothes) I'm not up on the renting points thing, so it seems a little confusing to me. How do I know how much the room would actually cost? It's based on the number of points and cost of each point, right? We had our studio as a cash room at a 40% discount so that's my only reference. I'd be interested in knowing how much I could get the room for by renting points.

If you head over to the DVC boards, you will find that the Board Sponsor is a rental agency, and there is also a Rent/Trade subforum. Depending on the particular resort and the status of the points from the renter (i.e. is there a pending use or lose issue) you will be paying between $11 and $15 US a point. The number of points you need varies by the size of the room and the time of year.

The Rental company referred to above has a cost calculator. Since they are a sponsor I am assuming I can post the link https://www.dvcrequest.com/cost-calculator.asp. If the link gets deleted you can find it through the DVC forums as they are a sponsor you will need to drill down but it is obvious.

The calculator shows you either the points or cost if you rent from them. If you are booking between 7 and 11 months the premium resort, listed on the page, are $2/ppt more, this is included in their price.

Remember:
+There are no additional taxes or fees for the WDW resorts so this is all in.
+You can get the dining plan without buying park tickets from Disney. So you can get the dining plan without tickets or with airmile tickets etc.
-You pay extra if you want daily housekeeping. They take out the trash and change the towels on the fourth day and do a full clean, change sheets etc. once a week. (We like not having housekeeping coming into the room daily but for some people this is not a holiday. We usually have a one bedroom or larger, these come with a washer and dryer so we just pop the towels in when necessary.)

I would caution you about putting this out there. You could end up with people contacting you that might not have the best intentions. Please use the rent trade board on the dvc section. You can always ask if the person on the board if they will take Can$. FYI I do rent on that board, and sometimes take Can$. But as of right now I don't have extra points, and don't own Poly so would not be able to book until 7 months out.
Keep checking and also check out the helpful link at the top of the Rent/Trade board for what to expect.

If someone is renting for say, $12 a point, would this be all in? No extras?

Foreign transaction fee would be...????

The renter is usually responsible for the 3% PayPal fee, but that can be negotiated or the owner may allow you to pay by cheque. However, the $12/point, does not include food or theme park tickets. It is strictly just the accommodations and Magical Express.

As PP says the 12 is just for food, the renter should help you set up ME and if you wanted the meal plan. The meal plan would be extra and that would also need to be paid upfront.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but I'm actually interested in renting DVC points too next year in September - for my honeymoon!! :lovestruc

However, I had NO idea renting DVC points was a thing until literally this morning. So I feel like there's a lot to learn about this whole process.

Think she is referring to foreign exchange fee (forex). Most banks and credit cards charge a fee over and above the actual exchange rate, generally 2.5 to 3.0 percent. If you walk up to the teller at your bank and exchange C$100 to US$, you will get about $72 US. If you immediately give that US$72 dollars back to the teller, she will hand you back about C$94. That $6 you lost is the exchange fee, 3% on each transaction.

This can be pretty significant when you are renting a lot of points at say $12 ea.

This is what I was referring to. My AMEX charges me 2.5% on top of the exchange rate for any transaction done in USD.
