I always try to do something different on my trips to WDW, so this year I've booked the Hoop de Doo Musical Review. Now this always gets rave reviews but when I told my DH he didn't like the sound of it. Has anyone been? It does sound a bit corny, but all the fuss must be for a good reason, right?

I'm wondering if it might better be suited to American tastes and whether to cancel my booking. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Karen

We have done it twice, five years apart. I would recomend it. Last time as a party of eight we were pretty close to the front my teens and twenties loved it and our friends who were with us still talk about it. Well worth the money and we thought the food was good, hot and plenty of it. It is corney but excellent.

It's a small world after all........ I went to Bedford High - 1981 to 1986 (I'm 36).

Funnily enough I've just come back from Tyldesley Aldi (their ice wine is amazing, tastes just like the stuff at Le Cellier).

We will be in Orlando same time as you. We fly out on the 25th August until 1st September - just one week for us (sob).

i'm an american living overseas (for many years now), so i don't fulfill your requirement for Brits, but i do have a different opinion than most on this subject...
we went to the hoop de doo about 5 years ago....
all four of us hated it....(2 adults and 2 teens)...
we had the feeling of being super rushed through dinner and the show so they could clear us out for the next show..

we wouldn't go back even if it were free...

and it's not because we don't like that southern cornball show type thing...we used to love the diamond horseshoe review, which was similar, though on a much smaller scale and more laid back...

because we loved the diamond horseshoe review so much, we thought we'd love the HDDR, but nope, we totally hated it....every second of it, from the start to the finish....

Well I thought the show was entertaining enough but I certainly wasn't rolling around the floor or anything, its more suited to an american audience IMHO. I thought the food was icky and I could only manage to eat the bread and salad, just didn't like the taste on the chicken or ribs and the corn didn't taste cooked. the strawberry shortcake was the worst kind of processed sugar as well. I'm glad I went once, I can say I did it and it wasn't awful, but I did go in search of a proper dinner after. Please believe me when I say I'm no food snob either, I love McDs, I just couldn't eat this. Please go the once and try for yourself as everyone's views are different and you may love it. Have a good time,
Claire xx

We went xmas 2004 and it was my DH first time to Florida.....he still talks about the hoop-dee-dooh being his favourite dinning experience, and this is a man that gets excited about nothing.

We went in 2003 and thought it was pretty good. The food was basic but well cooked and the show itself wasn't bad - not a patch on the old Diamond Horsehoe, but I certainly laughed a fair bit. We also had the best seats in the house; right by the stage, dead centre, which meant we did get picked on once or twice by the cast!

I probably wouldn't go back because it's one of those things that you do once and don't bother again (I guess the show doesn't change much from year to year either), but it was well worth one visit.

I'm with Beth on this one - loved Diamond Horseshoe Review and was a bit disappointed with Hoop de Doo - then again, I went with high expectations and that could have been the problem.

OT - BTW Paul, Mrs Tomlinson at St Mary's was a friend of mine, and so was Mrs Connor from Bedford High Karen, I taught at the other side of the Wigan authority in the years you both mention. Time to get out my rocking chair and slippers then ...... ;)

our problem may have been like Moira's - high expectations...
a combination of our love for the silly diamond horseshoe review and all the great reviews of the HDDR we'd heard....everyone ALWAYS raves about it...
and we're super disneyholics and usually love everything disney (with a few exceptions here and there)...

but we really didn't enjoy the show...and worse was the rushing....i can't stand being rushed through a meal (even if the meal isn't very good)...i'm not into shoveling food down my throat, which is what it seemed was required in order to be finished and out of there....

anyway, as someone else suggested, you really should go to experience it yourself....if you enjoy it, great.....if not, then you'll know what you're not missing...
