Any "Bosses" (supervisors) here?

30 - employees - for the past 5 years we do a bag of candy and a lottery scratch ticket for everyone

I have 20 people
Last year, I bought a few rows of those mickey shaped ornaments and put them in small bags with some candy.

That was such a good idea, but this year, I'm completely lost and kind of broke

I supervise about 200 people. I usually give plates of homemade cookies, about 3 per person. (yes this is 50 dozen cookies ) Even if I bought dollar store items, it would be far too expensive for me to give everyone an individual gift.

One year, I got tired of making so many cookies, and I did red velvet cakes instead. These were VERY well, received btw, but I'll never do it again. When DH came home to find 32 layers of red velvet cake cooling in the kitchen (and the dining room, and the living room, etc. lol) he looked around at it all and said, "How are you transporting all these cakes to work?" Oh wow, I hadn't thought of that. It was a nightmare, seriously. Never again. But everyone really liked them.

I guess I'm just doing cookies again this year. I also add a card with a simple note like "Thanks for all your hard work this year" or something similar. People like knowing they are appreicated.

I once had a boss that baked us cookies--those cookies were great.

After years of giving and receiving, I asked my staff if they would like to sponser children in the foster care system (I adopted 2 from foster care and many shared in the experience).

It was an amazing success....everyone loved it and it has become a tradition. We only buy toys for kids....no giving to any co-worker.

We do go out for a nice dinner, I collect toys and drop at agency.

I always did something that wasn't cheap nor expensive, maybe a really nice coffee mug and a gift card for the mall. That made it easy to give everyone the same basic thing and they all liked it.

One thing I would never do and it was done to me and the group I worked in, give gifts only to a select few, publicly. I worked for a real doozy for a few years, she gave her favorites gifts every year. Big flower arrangements, boxes of candy, really over the top for boss to subordinate gifts. She brought them into the office and walked around about 10:30 in the morning, making sure everyone was in their cube and could hear the presentation. And even tho the non favorites got nothing, they wanted to pitch in and buy her a group gift.

I have a current staff of 3 in my department, though I'm currently hiring for a 4th position.

I will probably do nothing. I am in such a budget bind. Also, my employees are the type that would feel obligated to do something back, and none of them can afford to.

So, I will most likely bring in danish and bagels for breakfast Christmas week and leave it at that.

I have 15 Agents working for me...

I throw a big party at my house and supply all the food, drinks, adult beverages. We have a sitter for the kids if they can't find one or want to bring the young ones with them. It's a very family oriented party and the children are welcome. Most of my guys (and two gals) have kids from 5-8 or none at all, so it's relatively simple.

I'm not allowed to give bonuses but I do give them a gift of some sort--usually related to "our line of work". Wives and husbands also get something.

Then I take call on Christmas so they get time uninterrupted with their families...

So far, this has worked for me!!!

Christmas a couple years ago I was working at SOCOM as an "executive secretary" in the military. Our boss that year gave the 3 of us each a Yummy, big, 3 wick holiday candle. He'd chosen a scent for each of us that he thought we'd like the best and he was actually right on. It may not have been a big gift, but I really really appreciated it.

Wow, I work in a hospital, and we all took a 5% paycut so we didn't have to eliminate jobs. We won't do anything for employees this year. I supervise 5 department managers, I think on my dime I will take them to lunch.

Everything we have ever done for employees has always been on our own dime. DH's old company did throw a Christmas party for everyone.

When DH managed his office, he took everyone out for a lunch for Christmas. I used to save for it all year, because it cost about $1500 when all was said and done! He managed a large office.
