Any beaches near the Nassau pier?

Little over a week until our July 3 sailing on the Wonder! Another question came to mind: we have several things in mind to do while in Nassau, but when we're done with touring and looking at Atlantis - is there a beach near the ship where we could go over and hang out without a lot of transportation, etc. hassles? I've heard of Saunders Beach - says it's for locals, how is it? Also the British Colonial Beach Resort - do they let "day trippers" use their beach? Thanks for any info!
