hello :) newbie alert!!!!

we are off to disney (YAY!!) and while we are there my little one will celebrate her 3rd birthday...all very exciting but would love some advice/opinions about the birthday tea party and cafe mickey.

we've booked birthday tea party AND a birthday cake...does anyone know if the birthday cake is included in the tea party or if its a seperate thing?? also are there balloons at the tea party? this might sound like an odd question but my little one LOVES balloons!!!

because of the time of birthday tea, havent booked a cafe mickey meal HOWEVER having read all the fantastic reviews of it i'm wondering if it would be better to go there instead...if anyone has done both i'd love to know which you prefered.

Hello!! :welcome:

I can't help about the tea party or birthday cake, but I can help about Cafe Mickey...

Myself and my fiance went there on our last trip and we loved it! We thought the food was fantastic and very worth the money.... :goodvibes We also met loads of characters and had a total blast from beginning to end!

We did the tea party but not as a birthday party - they are held at the same time but those who have booked as a birthday party get a birthday cake per table, the characters will sing happy birthday and the birthday child/adult gets a small gift.
There are no balloons or anything.

We loved the tea party and were meant to do it again last month but ended up not being able to go. However there are loads of cakes there already and I feel it is a bit of a waste paying extra to get yet another cake.
Why not book a cake at Cafe Mickey - you dont have to have a full meal you can just have a main course and then the cake and then book the tea party as well (not as a birthday one)

thanks for replies :)

trying to work out what to do is aaaaarrrrggghhhh!!! whenever we've been before we've just enjoyed being there and done whatever we've been in the mood for...have never had to plan/arrange/book anything for a specific day...sure whatever we end up doing will be fab :cool1:

We were there last week and booked both Cafe Mickey and the character tea / birthday party.

Now I thought when I booked the birthday cake that it was going to be at the party and I was really shocked when they brought it out at Cafe Mickey. However, on hindsight I am really glad that they did.

My DD - 4 - got lots of attention from the characters, danced with Mickey, Baloo and King John and they all crowded round the table and gave her lots of one-on-one hugs and cuddles. There were 3 birthdays in there and each got individual treatment.

The following day, at the tea party, it was horrendously busy and there were about 15 birthday cakes which they delivered all at once, so the children whose birthday it was had a big group birthday song with the characters just standing around them all. Yes, they had got to meet them anyway as they walked around the tables but, for us, the Cafe Mickey birthday was much better.

Can't speak for the tea party, but the birthday party at the Lucky Nugget was very disappointing :sad2:

Although they asked for my dughter's name beforehand, when they actually brought the cake out (a few of the waiters and waitresses, and no balloons), they sang "Happy Birthday to Hmm Hmm", and it was just really lame.

Even the characters that were in the restaurant didn't take the cue (with the exception of one character who decided to come over after it was all said and done).

The chocolate cake was lovely (very rich), but they just wisked it away immediately, and then returned with it cut into 6 equally large pieces which no one really wanted after the large buffet meal. Luckily we had a sandwich box that we were able to take it away in.

Would never pay for it again, and if you do, I'd suggest writing down the person's name so that they don't forget it!

Just a thought about the balloons... The hotels tend to be able to take special requests, so could you not ask them to place some balloons in your room during the day (maybe when they clean the room or something) of your little one's birthday?

That way, she'll have some balloons waiting for her when you get back to the room after your day at the park.

great idea and def worth an ask :) or i'll do some sneaky room decorating while dd is asleep!!

thanks for replies everyone...you've been a great help :yay:
