Well my back went out six days ago, been doing all I can to get it back on track. Doc, Chiro, &
meds. We leave in 3 days! Do you need anything from your doc to rent a chair? Should I get a motorised or manual chair, (if I need one)? Do the chairs manover through the lines good?
We are doing 3 days at US/IOA and one day at either MK or MGM.
Any info will be greatly apprecitated!! Its hard to get excited now.
Thanks!!

Welcome to our board (although I'm sure you would rather not have to visit the disABILITIES Board 3 days before your trip).

You can rent manual wheelchairs or scooters (also called ecvs) at the parks. There seems to be a pretty good supply of wheelchairs, but the ecvs are first come, first served. You don't need a doctor's letter or anything to rent one.
The advantage of a wheelchair is they cost less than an ecv to rent. The disadvantage is that someone will need to push you.
you can also rent one from one of the offsite vendors. The advantage to that is it's a little less expensive and you will also have it it your hotel. Here are the places that DIS posters have rented from:

You also will want to look at the rides that are marked on the park maps with a small orange triangel. Those are the ones that should be avoided by anyone with back or neck problems.

its not fun to have! but the good news is its possible to get around relatively easily especially
at dis and universal studios...ioa is another matter(we had a lot of problems there, but that
was last summer so maybe things have improved).

I'd suggest an ecv if u can afford it. It makes it easier on your whole party and you! i always
take a book in case i have to wait out a ride(face it, u probably won't want to get on some of
those big coasters in ioa... and sometimes i just get tired of people watching... and talking to
total strangers(I KNOW MOM!! DON'T TALK TO STRANGERS!). Its also useful to have a bottle
of water so you don't have to get in and out so often. I'd suggest if u want to shop leaving
your ecv outside if u r mobile enough, the stores are NOT designed for ecv's! or wheelchairs!

Most of all, have a great time!!! I went a few months after a bad auto accident which blew some
discs in my lower back, getting into the parks to where the ecv's are was the toughest!
