Any advantage to buying Kindle on Amazon?

My Mom gave me money for Christmas to buy a Kindle Fire! I've been reading a lot about it. Is there any advantage to buying the Fire from Amazon instead of Best Buy, Target or another brick and morter store? The price is the same everywhere. I only order from Amazon a couple of times a year, so I do not have Amazon Prime.

I ordered mine from Amazon and I was just in awe when I turned it on and it had my name on it! It had all of my Amazon account information already set up so that saves some time.

You don't pay tax when you order from Amazon. Also when you purchase anything directly from amazon and spend over $25 you get free shipping.

No sales tax and no shipping charges. Here in my state, saving on the sales tax alone saves about $15, which could be well spent on a book or two or three

To be accurate, no tax in some states. But not all states. WA, for example, gets to pay tax. Among some others!

Do you have the Best Buy rewards card (I am pretty sure it is free)? If so, you would get points from buying it there. You can also buy it there or do instore pick up.

I bought my kindle (keyboard version) from amazon and it came already configured with my account. I don't think it is hard to do yourself, but it was nice to have it work right out of the box.

Keep in mind if you do order it from Amazon, the box has "Kindle Fire" plastered all over it. If you are not home during regular delivery hours it could end up being a very tempting item for some not so honest neighbor.

This is one of the main complaints I have heard recently from other Kindle owners and I found it worth the $10 in tax to not worry about my kindle getting swiped by one of our neighborhood hoodlums. Plus, I got it right away instead of having to wait for it to be shipped to me.

You can still get the prime free for one month if you buy at another retailer. I bought mine at walmart and still got the free prime. I put it to good use also!

I've bought Kindles both through Amazon and through Target. I'm in NY so I pay tax either way, so that wasn't an issue.

The Amazon 2 came pre-loaded and ready to go. With the first one, I had it half loaded before it came. I bought it in the days before I had Prime, so it took a week to come--so there was a wait. The second one was a Christmas gift, I had it sent in a plain box so you didn't know it was a kindle.

The Fire, I bought at Target because I had gift cards, and it was better to spend them on something I wanted rather then the let me wander the aisles and manage to blow the money on who knows what. I got it home, out of the box and set-up in about 5 minutes. I did have to charge it longer than I did with either key-board Kindle.

If you're have tech-savy, it doesn't matter where you buy. I would just recommend buying a stylus and a shield. It'll keep the screen from being covered with fingerprints.

Office Max is having a 20% off everything you can fit in a bag sale through 1/14 and many people have reported being able to get the Kindle Fire with the deal. Of course as is often the case, some people have been told the Fire is not eligible (T&C in online ad excludes e-readers, but T&C actually printed on the bag doesn't) Might be worth checking into if you have an OM nearby.

Actually if you state its a gift they will send it in a additional box which doe snot have kindle written on it and also no account info is put on.

Amazon means no tax, super easy returns and shipping.

I think Amazon customer service is an advantage. My Kindle stopped working after I'd had it for a few months. I had a new one on my doorstep the next day.

It's suppose to send it out blank with nobody's account info if you check "gift" on the sale page but when I bought my third one this year meant for DS26 I checked GIFT and when he turned it on it still said "HI MY NAME" but it gives you a link to click if you are not MY NAME. SO he just had to register it under his Amazon account info.

Having Amazon Prime is WELL WORTH the $79 a year it costs. Not only do you get a year's worth of FREE 2 day shipping, you also get 3.99 ONE DAY shipping and all the FIRE content that is meant for PRIME members only, like TV shows and videos are free.

We got our year's worth of Prime membership all paid for with just one purchase we made 2 weeks ago when we bought a 42 inch flat screen TV and had it shipped 2 day shipping for FREE. That would have normally cost around $150 for shipping or more. Also all 3 of the FIREs I bought shipped free of course.

Any content you buy, TV, videos or books goes through your Amazon account, so by buying it from them it will come pre-loaded with YOUR Amazon account info.

Also if you are a Prime member you get ONE FREE book rental per month, every month of the year FREE. That will pay for the Prime membership as well, twice over if the books are $10 or more.

I bought my Kindles on Amazon , the Fire and regular Kindle. Love them both, I'm enjoying the Fire while DD uses the basic Kindle.

THe only thing I Can think of that would have me buy it somewhere else is that if you use your Target card, you would get 5% off. That is the only thing I can think of. Shipping was quick with Amazon, the free month of Prime, had me BUY a year of prime... No complaints here!
