Any advantage to booking while onboard

We are leaving in 18 days (not that I am counting) for our 4 night Bahamas cruise. I want to book a specific 7 night cruise for next October since it will be sailing on a milestone birthday. Is there any advantage to wait and book when I am onboard or should I just book it now online. I remember a couple of years ago booking while onboard and I believe we got some onboard credit but I do not know if they are still doing any perks of you book a future cruise while you are cruising.

As long as date isn't blocked, you get 10% off sailing and deposit is 50% of normal.

Forgot about the onboard credit. I think you get $100 for cruises less than 7 nights. Very nice perks and worth waiting UNLESS you anticipate a huge price increase that would offset the benefits of waiting.

You can always book the cruise now and reshop it onboard. But honestly with you leaving so soon for your cruise I don't expect the price of the cruise to change that much between now and then.

Correct, cruises less than 7 nights receive a $100 OBC and do not include the reduced deposit (full 20% deposit required); shorter cruises still get the 10% discount off fare.

Yes, the placeholder entitles you to full OBB benefits (discount, onboard credit, reduced deposit for longer cruises) as along as you don't end up booking a "blacked out" cruise date. It is a reservation that simply doesn't have a date assigned to it yet.

A placeholder just means you have an Onboard booking (with attached perks) to be applied to a specific reservation at a later time. You will get the perks once you book a specific cruise. So, yes, you get onboard credit once you've selected your cruise. Oh, did you mean OBC for the cruise you are currently on, when you make the reservation/placeholder? The OBC is on the future cruise.

Thank you for all the replies. It definitely sounds like I can wait the 18 days and book onboard for all the perks! The cruise I book for next year will make number 5 and my goal is to someday make it to platinum status!!!

It is automatic. However, I always go to guest relations to get a statement for my account to verify that it is really there. Easier to get things sorted out over the cruise than on the last day. But there never was an issue, so don't worry too much about it! I just find it a bit strange that you never really get any confirmation of the onboard booking benefits being applied to your cruise.
