Any 20% off Disney Dining Experience tips?

We were very interested in these dinners and in the events mentioned in the letter we received with our card. Do you receive a newsletter? We got our card in June but haven't received any other info from DDE. I just tried the phone #, but it kept telling me to press *, and then hung up on me. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I just started receiving emails from DDE (for some reason I got none last year but just renewed a few weeks back and I'm getting them now).

The email address in the sender line is WDWDisneyDiningExperience@disney.com so maybe you could email that address with your email address and DDE membership number and have them put you on their emailing list.???

Could someone tell me do need to have your ID or AP along all the time. I think that would be a PIA!

Thanks!

Rules state you need id, but I was never asked for it at all.

Try wines that you not normally try and you'll get 20% off the price!

Jiko and CA Grill have terrific wines and most I have not tried.

We were asked for ID everytime we use the card at POP's food court. Also, we had a problem where they would add the discount to the food, but not the beverages (milk, oj, etc)...so watch for that if you're staying there. For us, they would not give any type of discount on the refillable mugs.

Well darnit!

I forgot all about the blackout dates on holidays. Hrmm... I really need to reconsider my V&A ressie on 1/1/2007.... I was thinking that was gonna help me save about $50 for one meal... maybe I can do 1/2/07 instead.

Oh, I meant to reemphasize the tip on dining at AK. When I went in March/April I would ask the CM at each CS at WDW whether they had any discounts (AP, DVC, DDE).... I forgot my cheat sheet... anyway, I asked at Tusker House and was told they did not offer any discounts.... I wasn't happy to discover when I got home that the CS places at AK took the DDE discount. That probably would have saved me about $10... not biggie... but it's $10 that I shouldn't have had to pay.... so not all of the CMs are knowledgeable on that stuff, so you might want to print out the info from the website to take just in case the CM says they don't accept it.

Also, if you do drink, you can use the DDE at some of the bars. We used it at Victoria Falls and at the lounge at the Poly while waiting for our table at 'ohanas.

Enjoy!

Love the DDE and if you drink at all it is well worth it. To get 20% off all drinks too! I mean we are not huge drinkers(we have 4 children) but then again we have 4 children... so a nice drink with dinner on vacation is a big treat. Our card paid for itself in 2 days(family of 6- but one is a baby so not eating) And we ate well! We used it at Tusker House and the bar outside tusker house!! So cheers to you and enjoy that card.

Anyone going with a "grand cathering" group..or just a large party? I think "the rules" state the number of guests per check. But, Shhhh when I went with 16 people the restaraunts gave us the discount! So it doesn't hurt to ask!

It's not really smart to travel anywhere without ID and most of the time when I'm at WDW I have my AP with me anyway. I do not go anywhere at WDW without my DDE, AP, and ID. 3 cards instead of 1 - not a big issue, and certainly not a PITA in my book

One tip I have is when you sit down to your meal, take out your DDE card and put it on the table in front of you so you'll remember to use it. I know you're probably think you'd never forget but TWICE last year, TWICE (lol!) we ate our meal, even discussed the discount throughout the meal and how cool it is and left without using the card. :faint:

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one! I finally started writing a note on the slip of paper with my ressie# on it - Get your DDE CARD OUT! That way, once I checked in, I would get my card out and put it on the table.

To the poster who questioned the 20%, for me, the big thing on that is that your alcohol is included in the discount. We're a bottle of wine with a sit-down meal family at WDW (not at home, though). The savings adds up quickly! When we got the card in Jan of '05, it was paid for by the end of the first trip. I ended up going 3 more times before it expired - one of those was for a full week. I more than saved what I spent on buying the card! Granted, it's not for everyone, but it sure worked for me - and is part of why I'm getting an AP in Dec instead of a 7-day pass.

Yep, we reconsidered our V&A dinner, too. We were going to eat there on Christmas Eve, but now we moved it back to the beginning of our trip so we can get the 20% discount. That really adds up for a party of 5! It's going to save us almost $150! Besides, it works out better for us since we're staying at the Contemporary tower the first three nights of our trip and we'll just hop the monorail back after our V&A dinner. Nothin' better than having the monorail as your designated driver after having the wine pairing at V&A!!! :rotfl:

Both tax and tip are already included in the price of DDP.

We love DDE as well as DDP. While it is easier to calculate the savings with DDE, I think the savings with the DDP can be greater and that is without any of the shennaingans discussed on the DDP sub board.

The DDP is also very easy to use if done so as the plan was designed. Since most of us here are planners and make ARs anyway, you make # of ARs to match the # of TS and that is done. Every person uses one meal at each TS....simple. It only gets complicated for those who are trying to manipulate the system.

You also don't need to count credits. Every receipt you get lists the # left of that type. But again for planners, you would already know that.

The savings on wine, etc. can really add up but you can use the DDE card for adult beverages as you pay for your meals with DDP. :thumbsup2

But boy, we love being able to join DDE. :sunny: BTW the second card has an additional charge now....$25 I think.

In my earlier post I forgot to mention that we also went to Sci Fi and Prime Time Cafe! I'll have to caclulate what we actually saved sometime!

Just to chirp in here to say that in two previous trips we were never asked for any ID at any meal. The DDE card was all we ever had to show.

Hi...did not read every post, but did not see a reference to:

ONE CHECK ONLY...THE WAIT STAFF WILL TAKE ANY CREDIT CARD, DOES NOT HAVE TO BE FROM THE DDE CARD HOLDER. If anyone has been able to split checks, I would like to know, but we with that nice a discount, the one check only policy is fine with us for multiple families.

Also, of course we tip based on the whole check...

All the best...Ted

In some ways, yeah, 20% isn't all that much, it probably won't break the bank, but it's as big a discount as you're going to get. We too like that it includes alcohol. We aren't big drinkers, but so few discounts include the drinks. I also think it's better than DDP, at least for us. I'll take an AP room discount over DDP any day (unless of course they are offering free dining or general public discounts comparable to AP rates.) We don't usually eat a lot of food in one sitting - so a full three course meal would be WAY to much for us. We greatly prefer to have our desserts, if at all, well after the meal is over while at WDW (say, a Dole Whip on the fly), and often only order one appetizer for the table, if at all.

It's quite simple to use DDE- you just give the CM your card.

We were able to use it just fine at the ALL-Star cafe, POR POFQ.

My one tip is that it never hurts to ask. DDE gives a discount at WOD store in DTD. You can also get discounts at some of the eateries there. It pays to consult the list you get with the card, since they make changes every so often. One restaurant we ate at, didn't normally accept DDE, but we also had REALLY bad service, so when we flashed the DDE card...they felt more inclined to give us a slight discount off of our meal. (We didn't whine or anything, we simply politely told the manager of the numerous mishaps that occurred during the meal: no bread, food allergy item (requested a food item without an allergic ingredient, but it was in the dish, had to send it back, and the meal was over before it arrived.), several of the dishes were very late arriving, wrong food item arrived....it was BAD service! Any decent restaurant would have taken somethig off the bill for mishaps as serious.

That is true, they are very strict about only one check per DDE card.

However, they are also only supposed to take one DDE card per table, they are not so strict on that.

Many times last December, (during Mousefest) we had groups of 12-14 people and just about everyone had their own DDE (or CM discount), and they split those up no problem and took the multiple cards and multiple checks.

On our trip in May, we were a party of 6. Planet Hollywood added an automatic 18% gratuity when we presented our DDE card. Which was actually fine with me because I'm always so paranoid about getting the percentages wrong that I way overtip otherwise.

Separate checks on the DDE is a rarity any more. If you need it and can get it, good for you. But the manager has to approve it and rarely allow separate checks.
I always lay my DDE card out first thing. First, so I won't forget. Second, there have been a few times I was surprised and told NO DDE discount. The last time was just last Saturday at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe, after I was told twice by staff there Yes. Server stated No. So best to show it up front and not have any unpleasant surprises!
I have not had to show ID in ages with the DDE. But I also use my debit card with the same name that is on my DDE card.
The DDE really is easy to use. It is pretty straight forward without many strings attached.
When the major holiday block out dates first happened, I called DDE. They said there are some restaurants who still allow DDE discounts on holidays -- but that is up to their descretion. So if the discount is important on a holiday, ask first.
Being local, I just eat elsewhere or at home now on holidays. And that works out fine anyway.

Sue,

you need your ID with you at all time. When you pass out at Disney it's nice if they can figure out who you are, its not a PIA.....

(And yes, they can and sometimes do ask for your ID. Never had them ask for the AP)
