I'm looking for a credit card with 0% interest on balance transfers, preferrably for the duration of the balance. We have perfect credit so getting the loan won't be a problem. Any suggestions?

I don't think that you'll be able to find any card that will offer you 0% for the life of the balance, regardless of how stellar your credit rating is. You're basically asking them to carry you indefinitely for free. No credit card company is that generous.

I think you can usually only get the 0% for a year or so. What would be the incentive for the credit card co. to offer it indefinitely? they wouldn't make any money.

Duh! That makes sense, doesn't it. I guess I should be looking for a low interest rate. Sometimes, I even wonder about myself.

Let's try again...any low interest rate balance transfer cards out there?

I just got a citicard with 0% on balance transfers for 1 yr, 7.9 % after. I'll start applying for another 0% transfer card in about 10 months..... puckerup:

I receive balance transfer offers from my existing credit cards all the time. Most of the 0% offers are for a year to 18 months. My Citibank frequently offers 1.99% for the life of the balance so I put my student loans there and am paying them off much quicker than the 6.5% interest I was paying.

I actually just got a 0% for the life of the loan thru Citibank...needless to say I took it. Where they try to get you is on the transfer fee...usually 3% or some have a maximum, some don't. But it is per transfer so I just transferred it all to my checking account and paid just the $50.00...now if I had written 3 individual tranfers...it could have been $150.00 or more. Plus w/ the 0% I think they wait for you to mess up and then they immediately apply increased % and fees. I'm just going to make sure I set up my online checking to send a payment every two weeks...then no worries! I don't know how they make their money on these things but I do know a few others who got the same offer from Citibank, in fact one neighbor I have was talking about it and how he transferred it to his checking then paid off his car loan......I've had the card for sometime and it is not a new application....but I haven't used the card for about 3 yrs...maybe their way of courting me back. Also I have had other offers from CC and then contacted an existing CC and they have often matched it. Hope it helps!

I have a 0% for life through Discover. The only catch is that I have to make 1 purchase per month after the 6 month intro period. The upside is there's no minimum to purchase. So I transferred the balance of my car loan to this card for the 0% and all I have to do is buy a pack of gum once a month. Of course that $1 pack of gum is building interest at 9.99%, but when I think of the savings on $15k at 0% versus 4.75%, it more than makes up for the $15 in gum at 9.99% that I'll spend before the balance is paid off. The other catch is any late payment will cut the 0% off, but since I pay electronically and automatically through the credit union each month, that's not an issue either.

What is the "it"?

Thanks

"It" would be the the amount you want to borrow.

"Where they try to get you is on the transfer fee...usually 3% or some have a maximum, some don't. But it is per transfer so I just transferred it all to my checking account and paid just the $50.00.."

Great info, thanks!

Does this mean you transfer to a 0% card and when it is close to expiring you transfer your remaining balance to another 0% card? That sounds like such a stupid question. I don't know why this is so confusing to me.

Like any other transaction, be sure to read the fine print on credit card offers. The last few offers for 0% transfers that I have received, have included a condition that you cannot be late on any payment of any kind, or they can raise your interest rate on this card.

To me, that seems extreme and very unfair to consumers, but no one has said credit card companies were fair.

:duck: Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get me!

ITA! I took advantage of 2 of Citibank's offers to protect myself from that. The first was a 2.99% for the life of the loan rate, and the second was automatic payments of the minimum balance. Whenever I can, I like to pay more than the minimum so I pay the "extra" amount separately, but that automatic payment keeps my account in good standing without the pressure of remembering the due date!

We just got an offer in the mail from Discover. 0% interest on the LIFE of the balance! The catch is, you have to make 2 purchases per month. Like the above poster said, there is no minimum purchase amount, so you could make two $1 purchases each month, and it would allow you to keep your 0% interest. That is by far the best offer I have seen, as most 0% interest offers are only good for the first 12-18 months.

I also have the Discover card 0% for the life of the balance and there were no transfer fees. Just have to make that one purchase (like others said...gum, soda etc.) a month :D

This is what I started out with too. I paid off the initial balance within a few months and called to cancel the card. They told me that if I didn't cancel they would give me the same offer, but I'd only have to make one charge per month. I bet if you called and told them you were thinking of canceling they'd make the same offer. I wasn't out to get a better deal, I was genuinely calling to cancel, but I couldn't pass up 0% when I was paying 4.75% on a pretty substantial car note.

Just got an offer from citibank for a no annual fee, 0% on purchases and balance transfers til Feb 2006, and NO balance transfer fees. Good luck!
