I'm still patiently waiting to see if we have any hatching going on!
For those that missed my other posts.. I have 6 parakeets and 2 of them paired off and started mating.
They did this once before but refused to go in the nesting box when we put them alone in a cage with it.
This time she has been a good mommy and sits on those eggs 99.9% of the day. She has 5 eggs in the pile (Man that must be rough on her tush!)
The daddy bird has been so good to her too. He feeds her so she doesn't have to get off of the eggs and sits in front of the nesting box with his chest all puffed out singing his little heart out!
We should be coming up on three weeks since the first egg was laid so I hope that we will be having some hatching soon. I seriously hope that these eggs aren't duds since she is taking such good care of them!
On a funnier note... In the big cage, the other 4 parakeets are still together with the cockatiel (Pixel) - Pixel refuses to go into her cage - she wants to stay with her little buddies. Well, Matt got a call from my brother who is in town with his family at my house for Christmas. Seems my birds were teaching their kids the birds portion about the birds and the bees. Only it was a parakeet trying to get something going with Pixel!!
Hmm... so what would that be.. a Paratiel? A Cockateet?
Keep your fingers crossed for me that everything turns out okay with mommy and daddy and the little family they are trying to raise!
