Ants--yuck!

Does anyone have any "non-chemical" remedies to kill ants? We noticed a few in our food cupboard and it's grossing me out. Of course, my DH wants to quickly grab the Raid can and spray--is he kidding me?

On of the companies makes ant baits, just like they do for roaches. Look by the Raid in your store. A much better idea than spaying your food with poison.

You call the pest control guy - he's my hero!

When we had an ant problem, DH would spray and spray and they would keep coming back. Finally we called the pest guy who put out some bait (looked like clear dried glue). The ants took it back to the nest - bye bye ants!!

They also found out where the ants were entering the house from and patched the hole.

It took a little patience on DH's part - as soon as he sees ants he wants to kill, kill, kill!! But it really was the best solution. We haven't had a prob since.

Why? They don't eat much...

There are ant traps you can get (kind of like roach motels, but for ants) and you can just place them were you see the ants.

There is also a type of poison you can put outside your house, I don't know what it's call but it's tiny little pellets that you put around your foundation. The ants think the pellets are food and will carry it back to their nests, where the poison will then kill them. It's nice because unlike sprays, it doesn't go all over the place and get on everything (or stink up the place).

I started getting ants this summer in the kitchen and dining room. Since I have young kids, I constantly have crumbs and nibbles on the floor. I have found that sweeping my floor once or twice a day helps. And then at night, I've been putting down Raid ant traps. I still see an ant from time to time, but not nearly what I was getting.

My advice, clean out the cupboard of all crumbs. Seal up any food being stored. Put out ant traps.

Terro works wonders! It's drops of syrupy stuff the ants LOVE, they come in droves, eat the stuff (fascinating to watch) then bring some back to the nest and kill off the rest. We had sugar ants, then the big, black boys. Took two weeks total and not a one now.

Those ant motels never worked for me.

I know you didn't want chemical, but if you really want to be rid of them, I htink you have to go chemical- at least it's not a spray.

Tinijocaro-that's what we use, too. It's like watching a herd of cows at the big hay feeder! The ants just circle right around it and suck away! It gets really worse for a few days, then poof -no more ants!

Is this something you use indoors or outdoors. We don't have an indoor ant problem but CAN NOT get rid of them in the yard no matter how much I spray!

TERRO. Works like a charm every single time. They carry it back to their nest and kills them all. I think it's $2.59.

Raid makes an "environmentally friendly" spray now--not sure if it is for ants.

Outdoors--boiling hot water poured into the ant mound after the sun sets works VERY well.

Another remendy--if you know where they are entereing....use dish soap and set up a perimiter.....Ants won't cross it and the ones that do get stuck.

We did this for the hurricanes last year as we slept on our back porch after the hurricane (no power...so no AC). I did a dish soap barricade..b/c the first night the ants got to us...but after the barricade..no ant problem.
