I am helping a friend of mine (somewhat computer challenged) look for a dear childhood Disney item that his parents sold at a garage sale (under his nose). It is a lamp that when the bulb heats up the warm rising air lifts up some fins or louvers in a decorative Disney character dance, spins around or something like that. Have you seen this item? Can you refer me to a link? Can't seem to locate based on my search criteria entered. Thanks!

I have dozens of Disney Antiques books and can't say I've ever heard of this! It sounds charming and I'll keep my eyes peeled for what you describe!
Good luck in your search!

It might help if you could narrow down the year it was made. Was it purchased new for your friend or did he receive it used? Does he remember how old he was when he got it?

Is he positive it was a light bulb and not a candle in the light? I have seen some type of decorative light but it had candles and the heat would cause fans to spin and things to dance.

What characters specifically were on the light? The more info the better!

Sounds like a Motion Lamp - Econolite.

There is one with Disney scenes from 1955 which is probably the ONLY 1955 OPENING YEAR of DISNEYLAND souvenirs of any substance. It is highly sought after by Disney Collectors and is a Crown Jewel to them. The art is a TRUE Disney lithograph featuring MANY Disney characters. The base is metal and has many more characters.. On The King Aurthur's Carousel Lamp: there are about 20 of your favorites there in lovely color! Mickey is riding the only white horse, just as it was at the park... Note: in the 1970's Disney employess painted ALL the horses white because the children were always fighting to be on "Mickey's Horse" ... The other lamp is the Train, which is from the train ride at the park too. There are only two models from this year, and both are very hard to find. The top was plastic, and came with lttle flags that went on metal posts. This lamp was for sale in a Las Vegas shop for $2200 in 2006, and was kept behind glass. They can once in a great while be found on eBay, and go for a wide range. As rare as they are in mint shape, I would expect a mint one might sell for upwards of $3000 at live oral auction of Disney items, but I have yet to see one hit that price... I consider this one of the BEST lamps, because the lithograph is rare alone, and paper, and the entire lamp is a rare crossover collectible.
