I have a doctor appointment on Friday and I'd like to ask him for a script for motion sickness so I can ride those rides at WDW that make me queesy (tea cups, all the roller coasters and star tour type rides). Any suggestions on what I might ask for? I'd like something that won't make me drowsy.

I usually take Bonine, the night before I ride the big attractions and I'm fine. No need for a prescription.

For Mission Space I try to make sure it has been 2 hours since I have eaten and I come out just fine.

I use the transderscopolomine patch (mouthful, right?) This works like a champ. Just put it behind your ear about 4 hours before the activity and you'll be ready to go. Only negative side effects is drowsiness and dry mouth. But it really works. Also works well for deep sea fishing.

I would suggest a test run with the medicine BEFORE you leave for your vacation. I was sooo glad I did, since the non-drowsy type practically put me to sleep! I'm very sensitive to medicine.

My husband uses the transcope patch for motion sickness and loves it. He doesn't get the dry mouth side effect either.

the non-drowsy type practically put me to sleep!

That happened to my DH on our trip in July. He doesn't even remember going to see the HoP. :rotfl:

Bonine, Dramamine 2 and meclazine are all the same thing and are considered the "less" drowsy versions of motion sickness deterants. I have tried them many times and they still make me so sleepy I need to go back to my hotel room for a nap part way through the day. I have tried taking them a couple hours before as well as taking them daily for a few days before and I still get very drowsy and do not enjoy the parks as much. I agree about making sure you test the medication for a few days before you use it on vacation.

I got a script from my doctor for Phenergan. She gave me the smallest dose possible and when I took a whole one, I was very drowsy. So, I cut them all in 1/2 and they do the trick without the drowsiness. I am going to the doctor on 9/9 and will request a refill. Good luck with whatever method you choose.

Everyone with motion sickness has different degrees of it and everyone has different reactions to the meds. I have severe motion sickness, swinging on a swing makes me sick. I take the old fashioned dramamine to ride in the car or plane and just sleep. I do not do the thrill rides at all, I would get sick even with meds. I have tried Bonine and had a terrible reaction. I wouldn't call it sleepy, but I felt like I had concrete blocks tied on each limb all day. I could barely walk, felt like my blood pressure was almost zero. I have used the patch for longer air trips and did fine with it. I would like to try it sometime for a very short cruise.

I have used meclazine as well. This is the active ingredient in some over the counter motion sickness medication (just check the packaging). My doctor told me to take 1/2 of the pill (they are marked, so I would just break them in half with my hands) if they made me too sleepy, which they did. The Bonine is nice because it is chewable. Definitely experiment with the dosage before you take the whole thing and feel like a zombie!
