My family is freaking out and wont stop talking about the damn hurricane thats comeing its so annoying!!!!!!!

I wish they would just up its just a huricane no more than a long thunder storm!

But it is so interesting to speculate. JK. Having a home on the EAstern seaboard this was big talk in our town too when Ivin hit us.

The season of 4 hurricanes here in Central FL. several years ago was interesting. That was my first summer here.

The first one blew most of the shingles off my roof, the second blew more off and third was just lots of rain, by the 4th one I had leaks all over the house.

There isn't much you can do about them. But you do have plenty of warning when one is coming.

Disney is great when a hurricane hits. They really do take care of the guests.

I hope it doesn't effect you...but I know how annoying it can be when people talk about the weather all day :rotfl:

XD im in florida XD i walked to the bus stop and this one girl a few years younger than me who also gets her siblings from teh bus was freaking out over it im like dude calm down.

Unfortunately the weather people in Central Florida tend to go into 'crisis mode' as soon as any potential storm heads our way.

This, as with any storm, requires common sense. You watch the news to see where it is headed, prepare your home/family/self accordingly and then do the best you can.

The good news is even the worst of the storms usually weaken when they make it to Central Florida so they are usually just a wind/rain event. But there is the potential for severe weather.

We will take precautions if it heads towards us (water, check the flashlights, food, get cash, fill the cars with gas, etc) and then wait to see what happens.

Everyone needs to take a deep breathe and use common sense.

I think after what happened with Katrina people realize somewhat that they are not 6 feet tall and bullet proof. They can't just ignore what could possibly happen. It is hard to know that something could blow through your town and there is very little you can do about it! We are in Indiana and we will be in Disney in 13 days  (but who's counting) and the weather is making my poor husband VERY nervous! I hope all of you Floridians stay safe! I hope we have decent weather after planning this trip for 2 years!!! but it's the risk we take booking this time of year right?:scared:

At least it's an actual Hurricaine.
The weather people here in Iowa go nut with break in and updates with any thunder storm.
And they are all"Dangerous storms."
I'm like....it's just a thunder storm!!! Last time I checked THUNDER never hurt anyone.

all Broward county schools are now closed for Monday. Which is also the first day of school.

Well, when you consider that the sound of thunder is evidence of LIGHTNING....and all LIGHTNING storms are dangerous...not a bad idea to take precautions.

You could say that "the honking of a horn and the screeching of brakes" never hurt anyone...but that bus that ran you down sure left a mark.

That happens here too! They look at every little storm as a disaster. I work at a police station and it panics people and they call us! Arrg!

ok but any and every time it rain and there's thunder doesn't mean you have to run for cover and hide like it's death at your door.. which is what they do now.
as for you analogy...it would be like if you heard a horn honk must mean the road is too dangerous to drive.

Not at all. What I mean is, the sound is indicative of something else that is more dangerous than the sound...therefore, take precautions. Don't play in a thunderstorm outdoors, and don't play in the street in the traffic.

Really. A no-brainer, especially after all the people that have been struck by lightning around here this summer. For those people, yep, it's death at your door. Be cavalier about your own life if you want to, but please don't suggest there's no danger in a thunderstorm, or a hurricane, for that matter. I agree a Cat 1 is pretty mild, and no reason to freak out, but they can develop into something more serious, as we have all seen.

I am not one to freak out over storms...but I do have a storm plan. I get seriously annoyed by people that freak out AFTER the storm, because they were unprepared, regardless of them living in a storm prone area and having ample warning about it beforehand.

Up here in Ohio (Columbus specifically) the weather people go WAY overboard (especially in the winter). They keep saying we are going to get like 6 feet of snow....then we barely get an inch! :lmao: It's so frustrating when they do that because the kids get so excited and think they will have a snow day and then.......time to get up for school...LOL! Then we get about a foot of snow another time and they keep saying dumb stuff on the news (giving the storm names) like "The Blizzard of '08". That is VERY annoying! :headache:
