Hello! We have an opportunity to get a 2br SSR unit for $400 less than our water view room at YC. We do love pools so DH is hesitant to leave SAB. It’s 2 adults and 2 kids, 7&10. We will have a car and don’t mind driving to parks.

What would you do? We have stayed BC and love it but have never been to SSR.

SSR does nothing for me and I have no desire to stay there. But I have stayed at BC and loved it. With your kids ages I would do YC. You truly can’t beat walking to two parks. And the pool is amazing.

I have stayed at both resorts. The space in a 2BR villa is not even comparable to the space you will have in a single water view room at YC. SSR has several nice pools. None of them are as extensive as SAB. SSR is a larger resort and you will have to ride internal buses around the resort to and from the parks like you would at CBR or POR, but if you plan to drive yourself to the parks then that is a moot point. There will be no walking to Epcot or HS from SSR, but you can walk to Disney Springs. Both are nice resorts. It really depends what you value most. For my family, once we stayed in larger villas it was hard to go back. I now value space very, very much. I also love having a washer and dryer in the room. Both are great resorts; you really can't go wrong either way.

I forgot about the washer dryer. So convenient. Sigh

IMO, the biggest perk for YC in your scenario is the fact that you can walk to two of the four parks. Its all buses from SSR (save for Disney Springs), and the current bus situation with limited capacity makes it challenging. But since you will have a car and can drive, this is a moot point.

Honestly, SSR will give you considerably more space, a washer/dryer, and $400 in your pocket. Plus, you're walking distance to Disney Springs. We spent more time than ever at Disney Springs on our recent trip with the lack of nighttime entertainment and shortened park hours. We are not normally drawn to SSR, but we even commented how now would be a great time to try it since its so convenient to Disney Springs, where we were spending a lot of time.

I do understand that SAB is a more appealing pool, but when are you going? Because SAB is so popular, I'd be concerned about crowds and capacity. People stay at YC/BC FOR the pool, so its inclined to be busier than any other, especially during the hot months. If you want a more relaxed pool atmosphere, that would be another reason to go for SSR.

You know the saying... location location location. There is no doubt the YC has a fantastic location and yes SAB is also fantastic. But and it a HUGE but, having 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and 3 TV’s and a living roomand a kitchen and a washer and dryer and $400 extra bucks and the ability to save some extra cash by having breakfast in your room. What time of year are you going? Will you be in the pool that much or will it be a pool heavy trip? Are you going during a rainy time? It sure would be nice to have a w/d and the extra space to hang out if you are. Your kiddo’s would also have the ability to sleep in their own bed as well. If someone is an early riser they can go into the living room and let the others sleep. Or if someone needs to go to bed early, they can go into their own room without everyone having to go to bed. Either way, have a great trip!

That is a tough one. I love both of those resorts. If it was one of my solo trips, I would pick YC hands down. I love being able to walk to Epcot. But with 2 kids, I think that I would go with SSR, especially since you said that you have a car. I don't understand the hate for SSR. It is a nice resort in a great location. The cast members there have all been wonderful every time that I have stayed there. I also like being able to walk to DS, especially now in a time where dining is limited. So in your situation, I would go with SSR. Have fun.

I would choose YC. We have had a car before but it does take a little magic out of it for us. Being able to walk "home" from Epcot and HS is so much nicer than driving. A 2 bedroom is nice, but if you are like us and don't spend a huge amount of time in the room, a deluxe room is plenty of space. When we stay at YC, we spend a few hours every afternoon at the pool. I would rather stay about anywhere than SSR though.

What do you hate about SSR besides the location?

The theming is meh. It is too spread out and large. The bus service is never great. The pools are okay but nothing special. It has been a few years since we have stayed there but we have done some runs around the grounds more recently. YC/BC have been "home" for us since I was my daughter's age (4) so I am a little biased.

Thank you for taking the time to write that out!!

Never been to SSR, but sounds like a good deal, esp with a car. That being said, I would always book YC over SSR. A water view room has such a nice view, but you can probably save nearly $100/night by switching from WV to GV. Maybe you can compromise that way. The pool at BC/YC can't be beat with young kids. We stayed at BC many times over the years, mainly because of the pool and Epcot access. When your kids become teens, they won't care about the pool.

YC if the pool is most important. SSR for space, kitchen (cheap quick breakfast, snacks), laundry (pack half as many clothes, wash when you’re in the room anyway), parking in front of your building (instead of somewhere in a big parking lot), two bathrooms (for getting ready in the morning or for bed at night), privacy and a king bed for the parents.

Thanks! What do you hate about SSR?
I don’t like the “theming”, the general feel of the resort. It’s got kind of a condo complex feel to me. I do like the treehouses because they’re so unique and I’ve stayed there a few times, but I just don’t care for the resort in general.
