I just got Westgate Lakes on hotwire for our 3 night stay before our DCL cruise. Of course now I am reading all this negative stuff I am not so excited. We have a studio unit, where should we ask to stay? A quiet Unit is preferred, no time to swim in pools.

Some more positive reviews would be great.

I read something about maid service being an extra charge. What does that mean. All the towels and things will be provided correct? Will they provide sheets/blankets for the pull out couch?

Spicy Cat It is obvious you had a very bad experience but can you reccommend a good spot at the resort to request?

When I stay at the Lakes I normally ask for a room with a lake view not a pool view. That usually accomplishes avoiding the noise from the pool as well as the buildings closer to the front that kind of make a box canyon...sort of. Plus if you get a view of the big lake its a great view.

All three of my stays at the Lakes have been great. If you won't have time for the pools you probably won't have time for the resort. The onsite restaurant was pretty good also...both in its incarnation as a seafood restaurant and as a bbq place. Check in is pretty efficient. There was an ice cream shoppe and deli in the check in building. I haven't been there in 3 years but at that time the food was good but pricey...ditto for the minimart. If you'll have a car I'd head over to Doctor Phillips to get food (Turn left when you exit the resort then make a left at the first traffic light you come to...not sure of the road names). Go up a little bit and there is a regular grocery on your left...behind it is a big lake.

PS. If you do have to do the tour (and they don't always seem to ask at the lakes...I've only had the routine once). Just smile and say no thanks. I'm not interested, no thanks. Smile, smile, smile. Smiling will actually make you feel better and not giving out any info about yourself will cut the interview very short.

Thanks. We won't be there much because we arrive Wednesday night and then spend Thurs and Friday at Universal but wanted a place with a little more room than a traditional hotel room.

anyone know about extra sheets and blankets.

our stay at the town center, we didn't get the maid service either. But, there were plenty of towels for the 4 of us. We did wash some about midweek, and in each bedroom there was extra pillows & blankets in the closets. Have a great time.

Thanks for the good reports. I asked for the 1800 building, anyone know how this building is?

Eventhough I totally HATE this place I will say that when we stayed their 2 yrs ago we were in the 1900 block and we did have a lake view and you could sit on the patio and see Sea Worlds fireworks. HTH

Why do you hate it? We will only be there to sleep pretty much, are we likely to be disappointed? Any ideas to make it pleasany besides go elsewhere?

don't answer the phone.

don't listen to any sales pitches.

but using hotwire - you shouldn't be bother at all!!!!

I brought Westgate several years ago and I definitely try to warn people NOT to buy Westgate.

as I say they are sharks.

oh when you check in demand your room NOW>>>>

the sales people like to take you to your room - you generally get something a bottle of cheap wine or something in the $10 or less range. If you can avoid this contact - you will not be bother.

besides I don't think Westgate would won't you to complaint to hotwire.....

so I really think you are safe!!!! ::yes::

Good to hear. So Spiceycat, is it just the general attitude of the timeshare staff that is so awful or do you dislike the facilities as well?

THe facility is adequate, Hubby likes the big screen t.v. However we are dealing with a customer service issue. While on vacation in November I had an occurance where maidservice removed/stole or whatever our things. We filed a police report and went through their corporate insurance and we are still :rolleyes1 . These people just have NO CLASS but to get back on the subject, You will have everything you need at this facility. The only complaint we had with accommadations where that you had to park all the way down the street if we returned later in the evening.
