Day 6--Friday, October 14, 2005

This was my last full day in the parks. It had already been a long, full week, but I fully intended to fit in as much as I could in the hours I had remaining in my vacation. I woke up early, and headed down to Storytellers for my third breakfast there of the week. As soon as I opened the door, I a manager who had been on duty the night before greeted me by name, asking me how I enjoyed my meal the night before and making sure that my server Brett had taken good care of me. I had another enjoyable meal at Storytellers--I even tried the pork and hominy stew that was on the buffet.

After breakfast, I made my way over to Disneyland to check in for my Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour. There were about 15 of us on this tour, and Mary was our tour guide. We began our tour at the flag pole, where we looked at the plaque with the opening speech. We walked up Main Street, where we looked at many of the windows. We then headed over to the Partners Statue, where we talked about the different lands.

We then headed to the Enchanted Tiki room, where we got to see one of the flowers that used to be in the show up close, and then watched the show. We also took a ride on Pirates of the Caribbean.

We spent quite a bit of time in the Club 33 lobby, and we were all able to get our picture taken in the little elevator there. She talked a lot about Club 33.

To be honest, much of this tour is a blur. I was a bit bored during the tour--I think I just did too many tours on my trip, and a lot of the same things were covered on the three tours I did (the VMK tour, the 50th anniversary tour, and the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour). I think if I were to do this again, I probably would have skipped the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour, as it wasn't nearly as good or fun at the 50th anniversary tour.

We ended the tour at the Gallery, where our guide talked to us about what the rooms would have been when it was Walt's Apartment. The tour included lunch on the patio at the Gallery. I got a turkey sandwich, which was OK, but nothing special. They had a strawberry cheesecake for dessert, but unfortunately I couldn't eat it, as strawberries give me hives sometimes, and I didn't think it would be a good idea to eat something that might give me hives the day before I was flying home.

After the tour, I went and grabbed a fast pass for Space Mountain--the return time was already after 6:00 that night! I then headed out of the park and ran back to my room for a bit. I wanted to get as much packing done as possible, as I was planning on staying in Disneyland until it closed at midnight, and I had plans to have an early breakfast at Storytellers the next morning before my 8:00 pick up time to head to LAX.

Once I was mostly packed, I headed out to California.Adventure. I had about an hour and a half before I was meeting my new friends for Washington for the VIP tour. I went on Soarin' using the single riders line. I then grabbed a single riders pass, and went on Grizzly River Run. I rode with a really great group of people, and wound up getting pretty soaked.

While we were on the ride, we were all chatting, and I found out that California Screamin' had reopened that day! I was so excited! They had been running the cars without people in them all week, and I had been hoping and praying that it would reopen before my trip, as I really wanted to ride it. I practically ran back to California Screamin' when I got off the raft ride. I grabbed a fast pass for Screamin' so I could ride it again later, and got in the single riders line. This ride was fantastic, one of the better roller coasters I have ever been on. There is one drop where I just came right out of me seat a few inches! It is very very cool!

After riding California Screamin', I hotfooted it out of California Adventure to head back to Disneyland to meet my new friends for the VIP tour. The VIP tour was a lot of fun. Even though they had said they wouldn't be able to back door us on any rides, they did back door us on Space Mountain, the Matterhorn, and Alice in Wonderland. She also got us in to see Mickey in Toontown without a long wait. She gave us a lot of interesting little tidbits on all of the rides, and showed us lots of interesting things along the way.

I left the tour a bit early, and promised to meet up with everyone else at the fireworks. I ran back to the room to get something, and then went to California Adventure to use my fast pass for California Screamin'. After using my fast pass, I jumped in the single rides line, and road it for a third time.

I then walked back over to Disneyland to meet my new friends for the fireworks. I got there before my friends, so I grabbed a bench right smack dab in the middle of the front row of the train station so the kids would have a great seat for the fireworks.

The fireworks were good from the balcony where the Fantasmic seating is, but they are amazing from the train station. There is so much more to see when you are right in front of the castle, and they sure didn't disappoint. I was in awe the entire time! It was fantastic.

After the tour, I said goodbye to my new friends, and got in line to take the train to Frontierland, where I took final rides on the Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain.

Hunger struck, but I was having a hard time finding someplace open to eat. I finally found myself at the Plaza Inn, and I'll just say that I was glad I wound up here, as I had one of my best meals of the trip here. I got a made-to-order Cobb Salad, and it was fantastic. It was so big it would have easily fed two people, and it was a bargain at $9.99 in my opinion.

After dinner, I went and took my final ride on Buzz Lightyear, followed by Space Mountain. I waited for a front seat on Space Mountain to make my final ride at Disneyland extra special. I then headed over to the monorail, and took the monorail out of the park, sad to be leaving Disneyland, but at the same time happy to be going home to see my family.

I slowly walked through Downtown Disney, making my way back to the Grand Californian. I sat out on my balcony and enjoyed the view for a bit before heading to bed.

I have enjoyed reading your reports. You had a few big bumps, but the trip sounds like it ended really well! I was wondering what time you were able to get the seats on the balcony of the train station for the fireworks? I haven't been there before, but I did read where someone said they thought the train station was a little too far away. Obviously you said you loved the view, but did you think it was far away at all? Just wondering. Thanks.

I thought it was fine, but I can swee why folks would say it's a bit far away.

That being say, I didn't have to stake my claim an hour early, and have to fight with people for my personal space, so I think it was a good trade off.

Thanks for the great trip reports ! Glad to see that your trip ended on a high note and you received a little pixie dust at such a sad time :wizard: I am worried by some recent reviews of DLH, but DNeph has his heart set on the Neverland pool (he is a peter pan lover). After so many trips to WDW, planning a trip DL seems like "a whole new world"- I got some great ideas from your trip.

Was the fireworks view from the train station comparable to the one at WDW? We want to see the fireworks at DL every night from a different location - Once I had seen all of the special effects for Wishes close up, I loved the perspective going further back - the train station - even all the way to the poly beach was amazing! :smooth:

I may be wrong, but isn't pool hopping allowed at Disneyland?

I would say that watching the fireworks from the train station at DL is comparable to watching them from the train station at WDW. The best spots at the train station are roped off with seating for VIPs, and folks on the 50th anniversary tour. There are some spots on the sides and behind the VIP section for standing and sitting, though.
