I booked a Courtyard Marriott on 140 L Street SE in DC. Does anyone have any insight on the area?

The hotel looks nice enough and the price was right ($119), but now I am not so sure about the area.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

I think you'll get a lot of different opinions on this one. :)

Navy Yard has undergone a LOT of changes in the past five years or so. They kicked out a lot of the seedier businesses and built Nationals Park there as well as some nicer apartment buildings and condos. the new DOT building is in the area too, so lots of people work there.

BUT, it's not Georgetown by any stretch of the imagination, but if you just keep aware of your surroundings (especially at night) I think you should be OK.

Thanks for the reply!

Is it close to a metro station?

Sorry guys, hijacking this thread to see if anyone has ideas or thoughts on hotels in the Rosslyn Key Bridge area. I want to be near the metro and jsut outside DC. Any recommendations on which one to choose?? thanks

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn Key Bridge. It was pretty cheap and had free parking, and was a couple blocks from the metro. It wasn't perfect but for the money and convenience, I'd stay there again. There are tons of reviews of it on Trip Advisor.

Looks like it's about a block and a half from the Navy Yard station on the Green Line. Just a couple of stops and you would be in the heart of the tourist area.

I was going to recommend this one too. There are also some really spendy hotels that you might be able to get at a steal on the weekend (e.g. The Hotel Palomar Arlington).

Another area you may want to consider is Old Town Alexandria, near the King Street station. You may be looking at paying something for parking, however it won't shut down at 6pm like Rosslyn tends too. There is also just plain a lot more to do in that area.

I stayed at the Marriott Key Bridge when I was there for the Marathon (and wanted to be near the finish line). It wasn't the nicest Marriott I've stayed in, but it was fine (and the price was good).

Here's another vote for the Holiday Inn Rosslyn Key Bridge. Free parking is a HUGE benefit. It's very close to the Metro and the hotel is really nice.

OP - L Street SE is pretty far from the main tourist attractions (White House, Smithsonian, the monuments). I think you'd want to be closer in. As for the neighborhood, I lived in DC many years ago, and I would not have stayed in that area. Things have certainly changed, but the locations of the major attractions have not.

Good luck! If you do a search, there are several DC hotel threads on this board and the family board with good options much closer in or in Northern VA.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed quickly. I am booking for 4/2 and wasn't having much luck with availability. When I found the L Street hotel I went ahead and booked without knowing the area. I only had until today to make changes.

I did switch to the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington for $109. Not a bad price.

Thanks again for your help!
