I am sorry for yet another washer and dryer thread.i have followed the others and while there are so many differing opinions, I think I have it narrowed down to these two brands. I am leaning toward Samsung because it seems that people are saying that lately LG is going down in quality. We are buying a second washer/dryer for installation in our upstairs(all bedrooms are upstairs--this is gonna change my life!) bathroom so minimal noise and reliability is important. I have just found out the contractor wants the specs this weekend so while I knew this was coming, I didn't think it would be quite this quick, so I'm panicking a little. I swore I would never buy another front loader but with the nice granite counter and matching cabinets they are gonna build, it's what has to go in the space--I'm hoping the design and workings have improved since I bought mine in 2006. Also, are there any deals right now on washers/dryers?

Thanks for any info/insight!

We bought a Samsung washer to replace our broken Kenmore in December. So far so good. And I love the little chime songs it sings when the cycle is done. (Had no idea it has that instead of a buzzer).

We also bought a Samsung dishwasher to replace our broken GE last month. It also has a cute chime for the end of the cycle. I love how well it washes, but I am still trying to get used to the racks which are completely different in configuration from our last ones.

I have a Samsung pair that is 1 yr old this month. LOVE them. The steam function in the dryer is invaluable.

I think the biggest issue for you to look at is how much space you can allot. Our house is less than 10 yo, and has a closet on the 2nd floor for W/D pair. The previous owners left their Kenmore top load set as part of the contract. Last year, we started having washer problems and decided it was time to upgrade back to front load.

Imagine my shock to find out that the d@ng closet would not fit a front load unit! The house is practically NEW and the closet lacked at least 6" in depth and 12" in width to go with a full sized front load set.

TG that when we finished the basement I went the extra $$ to have the concrete dug up and a drain put in for a W/D down there (It's set up as a full MIL apt for the day when one of my ILs has to move in). I'm not keen on going up and down all those stairs for every load, but it's much better than having no choice on what type of W/D I can buy.

So, measure your space carefully and consult with the store on what you truly need for clearances.

Good point on measuring. We actually thought about that when we bought or front loader. Unfortunately, my wife HATED how the front loader did laundry so back it went. Lowes was great, but from what the salesperson said, it's not uncommon for them for people who have used a top loader for years to dislike (and return) a front loader for a refund.

Which is another great point - those returns are fully covered by warranty and usually have a nice percentage off... Our first front load pair years ago was a unit someone returned at the 30 day mark. I loved it and never had a problem with it. We left it with the house we sold when we moved overseas.

You can't go wrong with either brand, so don't worry too much about deciding between those two brands. When we were looking a few years ago we had narrowed it down between LG and Samsung also. We ended up choosing LG but it was neck and neck! I knew I would have been equally satisfied with Samsung. We chose the LG W3875 washer & dryer and I love them. The washer is super quiet and I've never had to rebalance a load...if it gets unbalanced, it will slow down, rebalance it, and speed up again...all on its own! Maybe they all do that now but I was impressed! The LG model we purchased was rated a tad higher on sound/vibration than the Samsungs at the time, and also had a few more bells and whistles. Samsung may be in the lead now, I have no idea since I've been a happy camper for 3 years! Both our water bill and electric bill went down also once we got our new washer & dryer! :) The two brands are probably still neck and neck so get whichever machine has the features you want. I love doing laundry now, seriously! I also love the cute song my LG washer & dryer plays when a load is done, haha!

I have a Samsung washer that it about 3 1/2 years old, and I can't say enough good things about it. I've been incredibly happy with it. The wash barrel is huge, I can wash a queen size comforter with no problem at all. It cleans very well. And it's very, very quiet. I remember when I bought it they told me there was some kind of stabilizing technology that made it perfect for using on a 2nd or 3rd floor. I have no experience with LG washers, but I have plenty of experience with LG appliances...and you wouldn't want to hear about them :(

Glad to hear so many positive comments on the Samsung! We bought a Samsung dryer to replace our horrible 6 yr old Whirlpool Cabrio that died. The washer sounds like an airplane takeoff during the last few minutes and only 2 cycles still work. Once it goes, we'll get the matching Samsung washer.

I also like the little chime and it's nice and quiet. No complaints so far. Plus the dryer vent is inside the machine instead of on top so I don't have to worry about setting something down on top of the dryer sometimes.

Not an LG or Samsung- but, I found a great deal!

We have a big household- myself, my husband, my mom, 2 kids + 1 on the way

So, I was looking for something on the bigger side...I just ordered the Maytag Maxima XL washer/dryer from lowes. Orig price was 1090 each- they are on sale for 989, I qualified for the Lowes major appliance gift card rebate (Ill get 180$ back) and it also qualifies for Maytags visa gift card rebate (May is "maytag month) for $250. Then also a $50 rebate from my electric company for buying an energy star machine. Lol- THEN, I got the 10% off Lowes moves coupon from post office and saved another $200. (Note: I didn't get coupon in email yet, I called and got managers approval for discount early)

I did buy the protection plan also to add 4 years to warranty

I paid $813 per machine *after tax/rebates/extended warranty*
Lowes also delivers and installs for free and hauls old machine away! I couldn't pass this deal up :)

Thanks to everyone for your info! As far as the space goes--they are building the cabinets around the w/d, so I think I will be okay but that is why I am going on and picking out--so we can check the measurements and make sure. We went into Lowe's last night and I was shocked that one of themachines I had been looking at was $100 more in store than online! Online showed free delivery too--so I'm going back to a store today or tomorrow and getting all the details ironed out(warranty questions, delivery since we live 30 min from store) and probably will order online!

Thanks again!
