Waiting patiently for Aug 26th - Sept 3rd (well maybe not so patiently!)

Right there with you. August 26-Sept. 4

Hurry up already Sw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

waiting for 8/29-9/5
Hi Hockeymom I'm a Goalie MOM!!!!! (very stressful lol)

Hi! New to the SWA thread because we have to drive 2.5 hours to get to the nearest airport to fly with them. Anyway, dh just told me that he wants to fly instead of drive and the cheapest I can get out of our rinkydink little airport is $270pp. So, I am hoping to get a good fare through SWA to make it worth the 2.5 hours to drive to Baltimore to fly out.

So...as I sit and wait for the next batch of dates to be released, I have 2 questions.....

1) Should the next batch of dates encompass 10/15-21?
2) When the rates initially come out what to they usually start out at ?

Thanks!
Melissa

Hi Melissa, I'm also waiting for the October rates to come out. I keep hearing rumors, but I really think they won't come out until late April or even May. You've got to check every day though!
I don't want to jinx myself (or anyone else!) but when they first come out I've paid anywhere from $49 to $99 one way. Those $49 tickets WERE THE BEST!!! My husband, egging me on, said, They're almost paying you to go!
But judging from gas prices, I don't think I'll see them anytime soon. I'm guessing I'll be shelling out about $90 one way I HOPE No More Than That!
Is it worth the 2.5 hour trip? You've got to include in that your gas to and from the airport & airport parking. But when these fares come out, make that decision quick because the inexpensive rates go fast!

Assuming dates are released this week, I would say doubtful that they include 10/15-10/21 as those dates would be roughly 178-179 days out. In the past three years, SW has only extended the schedule that far out twice.

My best guess is the schedule is released April 20 and goes through October 3.

I guess Southwest is just a waiting game! I'm waiting to make reservations for November 25-December 2nd for my wedding! I hate waiting so long but I can't afford to pay $700+ for anyone else.

Dh thinks I should just book with Air Tran so I don't have to be at the computer at 11:00 every day. It's tempting, but I waited this long and I'm willing to wait a little longer.

I remember reading "April 20" on several posts, so maybe that'll be the big day.

Well, after talking it out dh said "I don't care if it costs us $270 a person it's just not worth our time and effort to drive the 2.5 hours". So, we are gonna pay more and fly out of our puddle jumper airport. I don't mind, he's gotta balance the bank accounts :goodvibes

maciec,

We're sort of in the same boat .....we have a regional airport practically in our backyard, but, can't get direct flights. We've got to go thru either Philly, Atlanta, or Cincinnati and usually deal with at least 1.5 hour layover. So, it makes our airport/fly time approximately 5.5 to 6 hours if not more. Not to mention the high cost of the other airlines (last I checked over $300 rd trp and that was the LEAST expensive). So, we've chosen to drive to Philly (2 hours for us) and get a direct 2.25 hour flight on SW on our last four or five trips. It's still less time than flying out of our local airport. We've been lucky and have paid an average of $137 rd trp each trip on SW. We've also found it to be just about a wash to rent a car at our local airport and drop it at PHL and do the reverse coming back instead of paying for parking somewhere at PHL. And it's STILL less expensive than flying from our backyard!!!!!

Just wondering if anyone has woken up in the middle of the night wonderiing if SWA has opened new dates? Anyone getting up to check in the wee hours of the night? Just wondering...not that I have been doing that. Wink. Wink. :rotfl:

I don't know much about AirTran -- we don't have them here in Louisville. I think SWA needs another low cost alternative here to keep prices competitive. We have an "International" airport here, which is funny to locals because the flights really only go to maybe two or three international destinations.

BTW: I missed you girls yesterday -- I have a bona fide case of the MUMPS!! How lame is that?

YOU CAN STILL GET THAT?

OK, here is a way to avoid having to get up at all hours and check the web site, http://www.urlywarning.net.

This shareware utility takes a snapshot of the web page, Southwest Reservations page of course, (You pick the page to monitor) and then set your computer to check the site every minute. If the program detects any changes to the page, the alarm goes off. It works well and for the most part, Southwest rarely changes their web page. On the first of the month, the alarm activates, as the text for the month that just passed is deleted. Works best for those with always online internet access.

We should all make guesses, mine is April 19 with an end date of October 5th. :thumbsup2

OMG, Mandy, the mumps! :scared1: I had those when I was six, not fun.

gypsydoodlebug,

I know what you mean by the airport "international" designation. I can up that one, however.......our local airport is also an "international", but, only has two gates and NO international flights!!!! It has the international designation because there is an international trade zone industrial/business park adjacent to the airport and a lot of cargo moves through the airport.
Go figure!!!
