Another upgrade question: WDW AP to the Premier passport

I bought a WDW AP in Feb.

I'm now going to DL (yay!) and considering upgrading to the Premier passport.

I'll be there for 3 days at the end of July/beginning Aug and 4 days in January. Plus I have another WDW trip for 5 days at the end of Feb 2013 before my pass expires. I should be ahead by going the AP route.

Has anyone made the change like this? Do they prorate the cost and keep the original end date of the pass? Or do they treat it like a new AP with a start date (for me) in July, and prorate the cost of the WDW pass towards the new one?

Does my question make sense?

Just trying to pre plan what the options will be. Thanks as always!

They do not prorate and the expiration will be the same as your WDW pass. The price recently went up quite a bit.

One thing to consider is if you will have DL trips from February to July next year. I was in the same situation, I bought a WDW AP in April. I have trips to DL this September and next August. So the premier would expire in April, before my DL trip next year. So I bought separate AP's so each would have their own expiration.

Thanks! I shouldn't be going back to DL next year, but I suppose it's always possible. We have a WDW trip planned for April/May 2013, but it could just as easily be a DL vacation since we are half way travel between the two. Hmmmm...

That's a good idea to consider- going with 2 APs. Thank you for the suggestion.

I bought the Deluxe AP at DL before the price hike. There is only 1 day that is a blackout day for my September 2012 & August 2013 trips.

With 2 DL trips planned, the Premier may make sense for you.

If you bought an AP, you probably paid $519 plus tax, or about $552.74. The Premier is $871.75. If you can but tickets for your two DL trips for less than $319.01, then the Premier is not the way to go. --Suzanne

I think my first trip alone the tickets would be $275 for a 4 day PH (getting in early enough the first day I decided I would add a day!) The second trip would almost be free since I plan on another 3-5 days in the park (haven't decided how long I'll be there just yet), plus I would get discounts at dining and souvenirs.

Yeah, I am thinking the Premier is the way to go since we are probably not going back to DL. Thanks for the help!

If you are taking 2 DL trips while your AP is valid, I would upgrade to the Premier.

Plus don't forget about the discounts with the Premier. 20% off merchandise; 15% off dining (including the casual dining/counter service!)

Plus 10% discount for the summer on rooms. Yay!

Do you have a link to the list of places that we can use the dining, merchandise discount? I'd love to see what locations are included! Thanks!

Here is a link for discounts. I imagine the Premium would offer the same discounts a Premier. Merchandise discounts are good until 12/31/2012...I wonder what will happen after that...

The Premium AP (two park AP) has all the benefits of the Premier AP at DLR. This is important because not all CMs seem familiar with the Premium AP and not all cash registers seem to read the AP. Sometimes the CM has to manually put in the discount (they'll use another AP type), so make sure they use the right one!

I will just add the Merchandise discount MAY expire in December. But I highly doubt it. They've been extending it since they started in December 2009.
