Another update

Time to give another update on Sonya.
As it stands right now we have only two treatments left , the last one will be March 31 if nothing gets delayed.
Her doctor decided to postpone the last of the bad chemo for the very end with the possibility of cutting it out completely if her body could not handle it , when I asked if this could compromise the outcome he said no , in fact they do this for many people , cut out the last one.
We decided not to give her the last one because as it is she is already having a hard time recovering even from the easy chemo , her body is totally worn out from the chemo, last week again she needed two transfusions , hemoglobin and platelets and I am sure at this point even the doctor will say no to the last one ( which would be somewhere in the middle of April ). She was supposed to get the next treatment this coming monday but we gave her an extra week off to recover a bit more, perhaps we can get some walking and school work done this week.
On a possitive note the people from make a wish came over this week and her trip to Disneyland has started to roll , now she is busy thinking what she wants to do , where she wants to stay....etc etc .
She has a lot of things coming up now , a trip with her school to six flags at the end of may with her friends too.
This is going to be a real good summer ....we are going to make up for the hellish one last year !

Thanks for the update. Are you saying that she only has 2 more treatments and then thats it for good-she is done with everything? If so, that must be a huge relief! I hope everything stays on track and she can be done as soon as possible. I wish her the best and hope that she has a great time on her school trip. I am sure she is going to have fun planning her well deserved make a wish trip! My ds is still deciding on his make a wish trip, but I am pretty confident it won't involve disney of any kind. But, that's okay, he deserves to do whatever he wishes! I will continue to keep you all in my prayers! Take care, Patty

Kanga......we worry when they say they are going to not give the last treatment...like when it is enough chemo??? Tom has done that in the past, it is like the body just cannot take that last one and they can tell that by the blood work.

I am so happy that she is getting excited about her trip to Disneyland. I think I told you that Tom has been giving to Make a Wish for years and when he worked his company would match his donation.....in retirement, and in his illness, we continue to give. We feel strongly about our commitment to this organization and you can be sure when I get that letter in the mail, we will be giving again. I think this is the first time I have ever known anyone being allowed to take a trip with them.. Bravo. I am thrilled..

Please take care of you too....and hopefully this all will just me a memory someday.

Great news that she is almost done. Nothing but good thoughts and prayers for everything to go well. And I hope that the Disneyland trip plans will take her mind off all that has happened for at least a bit. Wishing you and your family well.

Patty yes she has two treatments left and then after that God willing she will be done and in remission for life , the only thing she will have to do is scans and MRI's every so often ( it starts every three months until she gets down to once a year after five years ).
Marsha yes you did tell me about your MAW contributions before , we did too in the past whenever we came across to donations for them but now it will become one of our usual charities.
I can't express how much this means to us.....there's simply not words.
Patty I hope your son gets to go someplace really nice , I don't care where we go at this point but just to be able to get a vacation will feel wonderful !

I love that Make a Wish is doing something for your family, it definitely is one of the good charities to support..

Olga glad to hear that Sonya is nearing the end of her treatment, and hope that then she can start regaining her strength and begin to live a normal life. Have a wonderful vacation. It's well deserved.
