Another (!!) Update on DH

If you can stand it, here's the latest on DH.
We went to the orthopedic doctor last Thursday to have the cast changed. The dr. removed the cast, took a couple of x-rays, manipulated the foot and said "No more permanent casts!!!"

He put on a "removable cast". It looks like a ski boot, is twice as heavy and has about 100 fasteners. It has to come off for 1/2 hour each day so DH can do some exercises to start building up his muscles again. At the same time, I can clean and salve the leg and foot. I dare not call it a pedicure or he will hit me with his crutches.

But, the absolute best news was.................

DH can start to put weight on it on Dec. 23rd!!!
Hadn't I said earlier that was the only Christmas present we wanted?

So, we're all very happy with his progress. We'll be keeping the wheelchair for at least another month as DH will only be putting tiny amounts of weight on his foot. One side benefit is the muscles I've gained from swinging the chair in and out of the car trunk.

DH's attitude got a tremendous boost from this. 9 weeks in a permanent cast was a long time for him. Being able to remove it, even for 1/2 a day is great.
