Another Transfering Points Question

Ok So I have been a member for a couple of years but I still am not completely sure about transfering points


I have an August Use year and don't have any points available until next year.

My Aunt (who is also a member) is interested in my points

Can I transfer August 2012 points to her now?

If I can do this will this mess up my *hopeful* trip to Hawaii in Spring 2013 (I know I'll be borrowing 13's points)

I'm unclear on the scenario here... Does your aunt want to use the 2012 points to travel in 2012? You can transfer from your 2012 UY to her 2012 UY, and she could bank those to a 2013 UY if she wanted. But, she could not borrow them into the 2011 UY. Transferred points can be banked once they are transferred, but they cannot be borrowed. Also, points that have already been banked cannot be transferred.

EDIT: Just reread your post and can add a little more. If you transfer your August 2012 points to your aunt, it will not affect your ability to borrow your August 2013 points to be used in Spring 2013.

What if I borrowed the points into the 2011 use year, THEN transfer them to her. Could she use them then in the 2011 use year 8/11-7/12

You can not borrow points unless you are using them to make a reservation.

The borrowed points stay in the earlier UY, they cannot be banked, and they cannot be transferred. When you borrow to book a reservation, the Cast Member will tell you it's a "final transaction". If that reservation is later cancelled, the points must be used before the end of that UY or you lose them.

( borrowed points may not be transferred ). But you can borrow them and make a reservation for your aunt's use ( borrowing these 2012 points would make them valid for stays from 8/1/2011 - 7/31/2012 )


I don't think MS will allow you to transfer your August 2012 points to your aunt right now for the following reasons :

~ you are still within your 2010 Use Year whether or not you've got points and current Use Year points are only transferable or the next upcoming Use Year's points for the purpose of the receiving member to use these transferred points to take advantage of their soon to open 11 month priority booking window;

but the 11 month booking window for these transferred
August 2012 points would not open until Sept 1 2011 (assuming the earliest a reservation using these points can begin is on Aug 1 2012)

The above being said, there are 'grey areas' concerning what MS allows and doesn't on timing a transfer so it is best to call them to discuss what you'd like to do.

Borrowed or banked points cannot be transferred. Only current year points. They maintain the UY and resort. You would have to transfer 2012 points into her 2012 UY.

You cannot borrow transferred points, but you can bank them.

This is how it was explained to me as well. So, OP, if you want to transfer your 2012 UY points, I believe you have to wait until you enter your 2011 UY to do it. A quick call to MS, however, would clear it up.

But, if your Aunt wanted points to use prior to 8/1/2012, then what you have available wont work.
