I wonder why oh why people ask on the WDW sections about USO or SW. Why don't they come over here and those of us who know our stuff?
Once again someone asks about USO and gets nothing but "oh there is nothing for little kids there. It is all height requirements and thrill rides"

Someone needs to create a massive fan and blow the pixie dust out of their eyes. :p

I hate when people say that to me, esp. since my kids actually prefer Universal/IOA to Disney. We went to Disney last weekend, and even though they had fun, my son asked me in the middle of Magic Kingdom if we were going to go to Mardi Gras that night.

I tried playing doctor with that thread. I don't know if it'll pull through. :confused3

I say the above as a person that enjoys Universal (I'm not a Universal basher), but I also say so believing that Universal is not a park I would take my kids to until they were at least 10-12.

Was this person serious?? :confused3 :rotfl: :lmao:

Yep...I am serious. Shocking, huh! How dare I!

Keep throwing out that US has Barney...it's not gonna sway me. To me, there's only so many play areas that I, as an adult, could stand watching my kid play at. The Seussland argument doesn't get me either because I feel that that one's a land that everyone can enjoy - kids, teens, and adults alike.

And I'm through with fighting this battle. The original poster of the other thread wanted to know whether her 2 and 4yo's would like SW or US better. For kids that young, I'd pick the former. For older kids, I'd pick US. It's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. You stick with yours. It's fine...I just disagree.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. I just find it odd that a 26 year old guy without children, and admittedly little experience with young children, believes himself an expert on what little children would enjoy most.

Your opinions are based on what a 26 year old might like, not through the eyes of a child in today's world. Do you even know who Dora is? Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria? How about Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil and Angelica? Do you know where the Krusty Krab is? And who is the cashier?

Many of these characters are the beloved characters of today's child. And many of them are out and about in Universal for character greetings. Of course, if you have never watched any of their shows, you would not feel a connection to them. So, you cannot realize that a young child might find incredible delight in them and the rides centered around them.

Nobody is denying you your opinion. We are just countering with a parent's opinion. We have experienced Universal with small children, so have some basis for our advice.

As I said in the other thread that started this "debate," there is certainly a nostalgia factor in Disney that I cannot deny sways my opinion. I appreciate your thoughts and, until sha_lyn brought up the nostalgia factor in another thread, I didn't even think about that. And I certainly understand that the Mickey and Goofy of my youth are now forced to share the same stage with the Spongebob and Shrek.

However, I do have experience travelling with young kids as we've traveled on many of our past trips to WDW (and Sea World) with my young cousins (and therefore, I absolutely know who Dora the Explorer, Diego, and Krusty Krab are...and Rugrats is old...I was watching that one as a kid ;)...although I was more of a Rocko's Modern Life and Doug kid - but that's for another thread :goodvibes). My one cousin who is close to 10, is, to me, the perfect age to experience Universal. While he may be past the Barney stage, I know that he'd still enjoy ET, the Animal Actors stage show, Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, Twister, Earthquake, Terminator, the Mummy, Men in Black, Jaws, Monster Make-up Show, etc. However, my 6yo cousin might enjoy the first four things on that list, but she'd be scared out of her mind with everything else. Give her 2 or 3 more years and we'll be all good, and, to me, all that she'll be missing out on is Barney.

I don't dispute that there are definitely things for kids at Universal. However, with ticket prices being the way they are these days, I feel that the best bet is to wait until they're 9 or 10.

The way that Disney ticket prices are, the best bet would be to wait til they can buy their own tickets!!!:rotfl:

C'mon, you can get a 7 day universal/ioa ticket for $85!!! How much does the equivalent disney ticket cost? About three times as much.

I could say...I sure as heck wouldn't need to spend 7 days at Universal/IOA, whereas I could spend a week and a half at Disney and not see everything...but that would start a whole other debate...wouldn't it? ;)

Totally OT: Damo, I just started looking at the American Idol thread (I don't watch until Hollywood week starts). I know you're a frequenter of that thread (at least you were last year). Who's your pick so far?

I know that when my children were young, that I still wouldn't have been able to convince them to give up US/IOA for SW. Now that they are older, they would easily pass up time at WDW for US/IOA and we haven't gone to SW in years. We have never been huge fans of watching wild animals perform tricks. :stir:

Honestly, I haven't really been able to get into yet. I'm hoping for some miracle next week. This is the first year that I haven't picked someone that I really like. I haven't posted much yet since I just am not that impressed! Normally, the Hollywood show draws me in but it sure failed to do that this year.

And... we are spending a whole week at Universal starting next Friday staying at the Portofino in a suite for $233/night. It is my kind of relaxing vacation. No lines, lots of fun. My kids just aren't big Disney fans.

uh....i think you need to *ahem* "adjust" your screename.... :rolleyes1

You seem preoccupied with what you would enjoy doing, if that statement is any indication. That's where your logic is flawed. This specific debate isn't about what you would enjoy. It's about the kids and whether or not they would enjoy Universal.

You are more than welcome to your opinion, you dont see me running over trying to defend my opinion like you feel the need to...but whatever :rotfl:

I grew up a "disney" kid, went to DW, have been on disney cruises several times a year since they started ( heck even before they started when it was premier cruise line) but after going to UO I had a huge eyeopener. My kids even enjoyed it more and gasp they are not all 10-12 and up :scared1:  Hate to say it but they are bored at DW so yes that would be a place 2-4 year olds could enjoy( they could also enjoy UO)....but dont sit there and say that UO isnt a place for young kids either.
Its just a shame how many people are incorrect ( even in their opinions) and need to clear some of that pixie dust from their eyes and get a look at the real picture.

( hopefully some of that made sense, I'm tired...lol )

Ahhhh so that explaines it! Why did I even waste my time trying to state my opinion to this person...wow that is hilarious! I never saw that one coming!!
