Another terror threat adverted a couple days ago

... in a week's time it would have completley destroyed the automotive industry, and the future of America's economy would be in shambles.

Well, THAT'S a pretty broad assumption.

The automotive industry is not SOLELY in Michigan, not by a long shot.
Nor is the US economy "centered" on the auto industry.

Sorry, but to me, saying something like that at the end of the post does little but generate an undue amount of anxiety.

And why post it on the Theme Parks board?

But, I don't doubt the story.

Here's a link found on Google:

What does this have to do with theme park attractions and strategies? There is already a thread on the community board where this belongs.

Heh, I was kinda wondering this myself! :confused3 Maybe a mod will take care of it.

There is nothing wrong with letting people know they are posting things in the wrong place. Take a minute to look at all the different forums. You may find something of interest.

So, for the person who made the response about my "assumptions" - they were not my assumptions, thank you very much.

Well, the way this works is... since YOU were the one deciding WHAT to POST and how to say it.

YOU must take the responsibility FOR the post.

Otherwise, who else IS responsible for your posts?

Wow. Calm down, people. I am new here, and didn't know where to post this. I read another terror alert post on this board last week, so I thought I would just post it here since this is pretty much the only board I read. I figured a mod would move it if need be. And I only posted what the sheriff told us. I did not post my own opinion on the subject; just what the sheriff said they discussed in their meeting. So, for the person who made the response about my "assumptions" - they were not my assumptions, thank you very much. CALM DOWN PEOPLE - I WASN'T POSTING THIS TO GET REEMED OUT. IT WAS MORE OF A RESPONSE TO THE RECENT POSTS ON THIS SUBJECT. GOOD GOD!
First of all, you might want to do the calming down yourself. ;)

Second, the reason why the other alert was posted here is because it affects the travel to WDW.

And third, I agree with Allison. Take a moment to see what other forums are offered on this board so you know for the future where to post certain threads. As she said, there is nothing wrong with us directing you to the correct forum. :)

I also live in MI (about 30 minutes north of Detroit) and the story here is that the phones (1000 of them) were probably going to be shipped overseas since they are untraceable and can be used to make hard-to-track international calls. The men were caught in Caro (the thumb area).

There has been nothing on the news about any terrorist attacks on the Mackinac Bridge or any other Michigan icon. If this was a true threat, it would have been breaking news on every television station across the world.

Indeed it already made national news Friday. Princess_De, I essentially read what you stated, that they were intended to be used for making international calls.

ETA: Sorry, OP. I heard some stories similar to your original account a little later after posting this.

Wow! I just moved from Michigan last week and didn't know this. I know it's on the wrong board but glad too know. Michigan may not "own" the auto industry but I know we are tied to it. If you don't live in Michigan you might not realize how bad it is there. Houses are sitting on the market for years, unemployment is high, and our realtor just told us foreclosers are a real problem and even the banks are selling short. There's a 3 1/2 years worth of inventory for house in our price range (our house is still for sale). It may not have hurt america as a whole but I could see it having a significant impact on Michigan. Thanks for the info.

I'm going to agree on the BS call on this one.

The OP doesn't seem to know whether the plot was to detonate a bomb on the Mackinac Bridge (there is no so thing as the Mackinaw Island Bridge) or the Soo Locks.

As for the Soo Locks -- I'm willing to wager there isn't a single automobile carrier that is transported through the Locks. The automobile industry does not transport their products via marine vessels on the Great Lakes. The traffic in the Soo Locks is primarily grain, coal, and iron ore.

And as for the future of the American economy and its ties to the automobile industry that is based in Michigan -- I would suggest a drive through Flint, MI to cure that misconception.

Thanks for the link. I did a google search and found several articles, but suprisingly none from the major Detroit news stations and newspapers. You'd think they'd be all over a story like this. :confused3

It is possible that the OP is a new poster and didn't know where to post.

If she had posted it on the CB, she'd be getting reamed for finding her way there so quickly.

Amy, the Community Board is the place for posts not directly related to the topics listed on others (Theme Park stuff here, hotel stuff in Resorts, etc.) If your post doesn't belong anywhere else, the CB is the place for it. :) If you didn't know, don't worry...no harm, no foul.
