Another Stroller Question

My kids are 2, 4 & 6 :dance3: and we will be visiting DIS for the first time this May. I've read some of the stroller threads on this forum already, but haven't seen anyone with three kids reply yet.

I have a Graco double stroller that I rarely use because it is heavy and cumbersome. We will be flying and there is no way I'm going to carry it on a plane.

So, I'm looking to buy something new. I don't think my 4 & 6 year olds are going to want to ride in the stroller much (and my 2 year old usually wants to be doing whatever the other two do). :confused3

I was thinking of getting a stroller that would allow one to sit and one to stand....or buying two lightweight, umbrella type strollers and the gadget that lets you tie them togther.

I think my kids weigh 40lbs, 38lbs, and 35 lbs.

Thanks for any help/advice that you can give!!

Hi~
We have twins and a third child that is 14 months younger. They are 7,7 and 6 now and all weigh between 40 and 45 lbs. We have three umbrella strollers that we have taken for all our Disney trips. We have the stroller connectors that connect two together and then we have the one that stays apart. I usually push the single and DH pushes the two together. They are very easy and light weight for folding and getting on the bus, boat or monorail. My three all still fit in the umbrellas, but it won't be too much longer before they grow out of them.

As far as your older two not wanting to ride in the stroller, that may change after walking all day. My kids asked for the strollers when we were in Disney this last time. It is also, IMO, much safer to have them in strollers with the crowds. I never let my kids out of the stroller except to get on a ride or eat when we were in Disney, before this past trip in June. They were the same age in June as now and the only reason we didn't insist on the strollers this last time is because there were 4 kids in the group and 4 adults. Even with that, they asked for strollers.

We've got 3....currently 8, 5, and 3....and as recently as our trip this past November we made sure we had a stroller seat for each one of them. Boy are we glad we did. We have a Perego Tender Twin double (bigger than your Graco ;)) and a Combi umbrella.

I never worry about bringing our strollers on planes or getting them around. I think the children's comfort, and our not having to buy something else we really don't need, is more important that the "inconvenience" of getting the strollers around. Gate checking strollers is easy, and it actually helps us navigate the airports having the kids in the stroller, or heaping all the carry-ons on the stroller. We always have a rental car, so I can't comment on getting strollers around on the Disney busses.

That said, we never regret having stroller seats for each kid. Our oldest doesn't use a stroller much at all, but it's worth its weight in gold at 9:00 pm when we're trying to get around or out of a park and she is falling asleep. The younger kids use the strollers on and off. During the day when they didn't need them much we'd leave the double in the room and then take both strollers with us in the evenings when we knew some or all of the kids were bound to fall asleep before we got back to the room.

With kids 2, 4, and 6 I think you'll get a lot of use out of having your own strollers. I'd bring the Graco and also get an umbrella. Suffer through the hardship and you will be well rewarded at some point on your trip when your life would be miserable if you didn't have the strollers. Trust me.

You could always bring a double (or two singles connected) umbrella stroller for the two youngest and just rent a stroller for the oldest if they get too tired of walking.

I appreciate your suggestions! :thumbsup2 I have decided to order two Maclaren Volos, mainly because they will hold kids up to 55 lbs. We will take these two strollers with us, and see how our fist day at Disney goes. If we see that we need a third stroller, we will just rent one from the park that day and then buy a cheaper, umbrella type stroller out of the park for the smalllest kid to use the rest of the trip.

Thanks again for the input!! This is such a great source of info for those of us who are planning our first trips!!

You'll be happy with the Maclarens! I have 2 Mac Triumphs and a double Mac and I wish I had bought them sooner! We have 4 kids, DS13, DD4, DS3 & DS21mo and when we go to Disney we bring the double & the single Macs for the kids. My DD and DS3 really don't ride in strollers anymore but in Disney they will. All the walking tires them out and like another poster mentioned it's so much safer to have them all in the strollers and not wandering about. It's our rule that when going form ride to ride everyone goes in the stroller, no arguing.
