My dd#1 will be 4 in June. She is about 45" and 43lbs. DD#2 will be 2 in July and she's 33" and 23lbs right now.

Can anyone suggest a stroller for big kids? I don't care if we have a double or 2 singles but I need a stroller for both b/c of their age. Thanks...

We have a Chicco CT 0.5 and my 5 yo DD (44 in 43 pounds)can fit in it just as good as my 4 or 1 yo...

Check out the Maclarens...most models hold to 55 pounds and I just read on the boards that the new models go to 65 pounds!!! I wish I would have found out about these when my kids were younger!

I have a Maclearen Triumph and love it. All Mac's are open to 19 inches wide so that is standard. Most seem about the same as far as seat depth also.

They hold my 4 yr old who is over 30 lbs. We got it in lime green so we can see our stroller when put with all the other blue and black ones. It really stands out!

I'd like to suggest a double jogger stroller for long life and rugged workmanship. I bought a Baby Trend when my son started to bottom out my regular stroller at about 4. The jogger lasted until DS was too long to fit in it comfortably even for short rests. He must have been 7 & DD was about 6 the last time I used it for a vacation

Here is a link that recommends based on lbs.

Just searched for this exact question and I'm subscribing! We are also on the search for a new stroller for our upcoming trip this fall. DD4 is 55 lbs. and also very tall for her age. We love the Maclaren Quest we have, but it is a single. We also have DS1 and would love to have a good double for this trip. Last fall we bought a regular front to back at WalMart which was a lot cheaper than a new Maclaren, but we literally drove a wheel off of it late at MK one night!

Anyone have any info on which Maclaren goes up to 65 lbs. or any info on other doubles that will hold one heavier child as well as a one and 1/2 year old.

Thanks so much!

Go with the Maclaren line. Great strollers- they push with one hand even with my 8 year old in it. We bought a Volo 2 years ago for her for Disney trips. Cheaper strollers just dont push when you get that much weight in them. Stay away from Combi. This is what we had before the Volo and it wouldnt push at all with DD in it.

The only Macs that go to 65 lbs. are the 2007 Technos (single and double). They are like $365!!! But worth it if you could afford it. Most other Macs are 55lbs. (more than other strollers on the market).

I would buy one nicer stroller and one cheapo. You could use the nice one for dd2 when you get back home but use it for your older heavier one in the parks when she needs it. She will probably want to walk some too. Then your little one can ride in the nice stroller and you can strap the umbrella stroller to the back of it. I would not buy a double stroller because you won't use it again after the trip. I have a 3 and 1 year old and haven't used my double in a few months.

We bought a sit and stand and my boys love it the 2 year old 28lbs sits in the front and we sit our 7 year old who is a peanut 42lbs on the back (he can't walk) it is very easy to push.

Thanks for the advice everyone! We looked at the Sit and Stand strollers, but none of them will accomodate her weight. Right now she is probably 55 lbs. or so, and we don't go back to WDW until end of Sept./first of Oct. I just don't want a wheel to fall off again like last time. We never found it, not even through lost and found, but thankfully, we only had one day left on our trip when we lost it. It was very hard to push after that! I looked at the Fisher Price and I've checked the Joovy, and neither are "recommended" for her weight. DH says maybe we should buy the 2007 Maclaren Techno, use it during our trip, then sell it on Ebay afterwards. I'd like to find a less expensive alternative though. We have also considered bringing the Maclaren Quest we have for DS1 and renting a single stroller for DD5, IF she would be comfortable in it. Decisions, decisions, decisions....

Ditto Maclaren. My DS is 2.5 yo and 36 lbs. The other umbrella strollers wouldn't push well with him but this one has a 55 lb weigh limit and it pushes "like buttah". I have the Maclaren Volo and it has plenty of room. Babies R Us has them out so you can try them.

We ended up renting this year for the first time. DD is 4 1/2 VERY tall and stocky (er...read that 70lbs) Last year we used the Maclaren which I LOVED, but she is really too large for it now. Renting was fine if we weren't out late, then DD was tired and whined about having to walk back to the car. I don't really have an answer, just wanted to chime in. I think we paid $55 for the week for the rental. Do you know anyone who would lend you a Maclaren for the trip? I've passed mine on to my SIL for her WDW vacations.

I was just researching Maclaren's actually.

I hope I am not hijacking from the OP too much (hopefully this info will help her too)

But what is the difference between the Volo and Triumph? They seem to be the two models that are most like an umbrella stroller, and from what I see, the triumph is a step up from the volo. Differences?

I splurged and bought 2 Volo's for our April trip coming soon. Took advice from everyone recommending Maclaren's on the DIS. I put each of my 4 boys in them for test drives and they held up well. The strollers are intended for the younger two, 3.5 years old and about 35 lbs, and 19 months old and about 26 lbs. But, if one of them hops out to walk for a bit at the parks, I know that the stroller can handle one of the older ones hopping in it for a bit too! They are rated for 55 pounds each. Fold up very easily and have a carry strap to throw over the shoulder for quick on and off buses at Disney (a must for us). The Triumph and others above the Volo all recline, but to varying degrees. I thought I would want a recline feature for the baby, but frankly, when he falls asleep in a stroller and I attempt to recline him, he wakes up :scared1: So, I thought spending the extra for a recline feature would not be necessary. Also, the 5 point harness is a must for my 19 month old, he is a Houdini like many his age...those straps keep him in  The Volo sits very deeply so the little ones seem to snuggle right in there and it looks like they could certainly fall asleep okay. We will test them for real in April, hope I made a good choice!*** If "recline" is a must have feature, go to 'babies r us' and put them all side by side, Volo, Triumph, Quest, and you will see the Triumph barely "reclines" much lower than the Volo sits as-is. The Quest does recline deeper, but costs more too*** :)

I use this one with my dd6 (40lbs) and dd3 (32lbs) I have had no problems with it.

We looked at that one, but my daughter didn't seem as comfy in it. Again though, she is big for her age.

To the OP looking for differences on the Volo and other models, I think about the only main difference is the reclining feature. I've actually thought about buying a Volo and using that for our DD4 and using our Maclaren Quest for DS1. That way I can lay him back to take naps. He has been a lot better sleeping in strollers than DD ever was! I absolutely love the way the Quest pushes ("like buttah" as the OP said!:rotfl: ). The only thing I disliked about it when we used it on our first Disney trip 2 years ago was that every time DD got out, if we had ANYthing on the handles, it tipped right over. That is a major pain! But the fact that it is so lightweight and easy to push makes up for that major inconvenience. The basket underneath ours (a 2004 Quest) is so small it is very hard to get anything in and out of it, too.

The only thing I am worried about with taking two separate strollers is the hassle of getting on and off busses with two strollers, especially after park closing! I am kind of panicky about making sure we all stay together and I would never let DD walk in those crowds. It freaks me out and last year I LOVED having them in the same stroller together. However, I've found some Volos for under $100 new, so that may just be our most cost effective option.

Anyone will more advice, please keep it coming. You guys really help!!!!!:thumbsup2

We were thinking of the maclaren twin techno-so glad we tried it...my 2 yo DS was smushed in it-and he is the size of a 4 yo...so needless to say, I have not found a stroller I like yet for the two of them...we may do 2 separates...I can't find one that fits my DS! Who is 39.5" and about 39 lbs...and an infant who is just 6 weeks!

My vote is for the Maclaren Techno or Twin Techno. When my kids were 4 and 2 we did Disneyland with the Techno (single stroller) and we reclined the seat flat and my 4 year old could actually sit behind my 2 year old (both could not sleep in this position, but at the end of the day it was perfect to rest their tired legs). My kids are both tall (90 percentile) and the Techno was perfect - and it folds up much better than the Sit and Stand. I have just purchased a Twin Techno (double). The width is a negative at times, but you can't beat the fully reclining seats, which will be a huge plus during our upcoming 8 day trip.

* We have had all the major strollers - Peg Perego, Zooper, Combi, Eddie Bauer - and nothing beats the Maclaren line!
