I have a free-standing now. Would I want to switch to slide-in? Could I?

I've never heard the term "slide in" before.

What is the difference between a free standing or a slide in stove?

I think with a built in, you would need some cabinet structure added too... it may be easier to replace a free-standing with another free-standing.

We had a slide in once and when we went to replace it with a free standing, the free standing one wouldn't fit because it was larger. I wouldn't do a slide in just because you may have to do something with your cabinets to make it fit and that could end up being costly (like putting in all new countertops).

A slide-in would need a cabinet base constructed for it to rest on at the least. Typically the base is a working drawer of sorts so if this is something you'd like in your kitchen then I'd do it. If yours is gas, I'd check carefully where the gas line currently comes in and see if that will work with a slide in - that could be an expensive change if needed. Otherwise, I'm not aware of any "benefits" to a slide-in over a range....

Thanks for the replies. Free-standing for me! Not looking to redo my entire kitchen. :goodvibes Thanks!

Neighbors just replaced their free standing range. The old one had the controls sticking up along the back of the range. However, their new model has controls on the front and there's a pretty big flat space at the back between the burners and the wall (where the controls would have been on their old one). They're finding that area to be a grease magnet and hard to clean.... just thought I'd pass that along in case it applies to what you're considering. Have fun appliance shopping!
