I don't have kids myself, but I am looking to buy a light weight stoller for my cousin who is having her first baby. I would like it to have a full reclining seat, fairly large basket, a sunshade, and a 5 point harness. I would also like it to be lightweight, one that folds easy, and one that will hold up to around 40 pounds so she can use it for a while. I have looked at the Combi and Maclaren brands, but I can't figure out which models have all the specifications that I am looking for. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. :sunny:

I would take a Peg Perego P3 over a Maclaren and I wouldn't bother with the combi at all.

The P3 has a decent basket (far better than a Maclaren) the sun shade can be pulled all the way down to the front tray, 5-point harnes, it's not super light but comes in under 20 pounds (mine doesn't feel that heavy) fold is super easy and quick, and it can hold way more than 40 pounds because it has a step on the back for a toddler to ride on also.

I've had all three, the P3 is my personal favorite. I have an older UK made Maclaren that has all the features and it's better made than the new ones, but I can't seem to sell it!

I did quite a bit of research on the 2nd stroller I just purchased. We were given a Graco Duoglide when our kids were about 6 months, and have used it up til now. My DD is about 28 pounds, and DS is about 32 pounds, so the 2nd stroller I needed would need a high weight limit, but I also wanted it to be lightweight. After alot of research, I bought a Combi Twin Savvy new off of ebay. It is pretty lightweight, especially when compared to my previous Graco, which probably weighed at least 35 pounds. The Combi Twin is about 21 pounds, but folds up tri-fold and clips together very easily, also you can use the shoulder strap to carry it or roll it when it is folded together. I liked all the other options it came with, and that the storage compartments held about 10 pounds each. The only thing is that I find it a little difficult to maneuver tightly. It has taken some getting used to in turning it, and I haven't been able to turn it as tight as the Graco, but everything else I like about it. It is the twin version, but if you have any questions about it let me know.

If your family (or baby's dad's family) runs tall, I'd steer clear of the Combi. While they can handle weight, they get pretty cramped for tall kids, and can be kind of hard to push if you are tall. The biggest "pro" with Macs is the handling; best on the lightweight market.

I don't know how much money you want to spend, but some other brands you might want to look at as well as what you've already considered: Peg Perego, Inglesina, Chicco, or Silver Cross. All of them make good Euro-style compact-fold strollers.

I second the Perego Pliko P3 . I just bought one for my 7 month old. I is lightweight- esp compared to my Graco Quattro. It is easy to steer even with one hand. I love it.

I'm going to agree with the P3, but mainly because I think it reclines further than the Maclaren. Plus it has the front bar, which can be useful with babies. Oh, and it can also be used as a travel system with the Peg infant seat (which is one of only two that had decent comfortable padding for the baby when I was shopping for an infant carseat about a year and a half ago).

I don't think the Peg Perego's steer quite as smoothly as my Maclaren, but I think if I knew what I know now, I'd have gone ahead and gotten the equivalent Peg Perego model instead of the Mac 5 years ago. Then again, my Maclaren is still going strong after all this time.....I did select the brand for durability.

As far as the Combi's....they're very small and light but my kids would have all grown out of them by 2-3yo. Normally I wouldn't use a stroller beyond that age anyway...but for WDW we definitely needed a stroller for kids older than that.

Good luck.

I have a combi travel savy DX. We got it when DD was 23 months old for WDw and it has worked great for us..............

However it isn't as good with younger kids. DD who is one now likes to stand on the little ledge and pulls up on the bar. She does fine the double stroller (peg pergo aira twin.)

I really want a P3. DH won't let me buy another $300 stroller so I just want one.

It will hold a carseat so that is really good for a newborn.

It has the bar another child can stand on so that is good when you have a older 2nd child.

Go with the P3.

I wish I had gone with a Mac right away. I went through 4 strollers before I broke down and bought a Mac. Honestly, I think the full recline is overrated. The baby will be in a carseat for most of his/her few months (use a snap-n-go until then) and then when they are bigger they need a sturdy, easy to turn stroller. My almost 50 lb 6 year old still rides in our Mac when at WDW (a Techno, but I don't know if they still make it) and it's a TANK!
