Hi,

About a year ago I heard people talking about Disney wanting to add a second Soarin, perhaps in DHS hat would take place in either a series of European cities or perhaps randomized different countries, kind of like Star Tours.

Did anyone else hear or read any of this? Soarin is my favorite, so if there was a second version I would be extremely happy.

Thanks

The rumors I've read center on (1) upgrading the existing Sorain' with new projectors and a new film that goes around the world (2) adding 1 or 2 additional theaters to the existing Soarin' and (3) an attraction in the new Avatar Pandora land in AK that in some ways is similar to the Soarin' system, but more advanced/improved with different features.

I don't believe there was ever a rumor of a new Soarin' in a different park, but it's looking very likley that the Soarin' at Epcot will get a new film based on international locations at some point in the next couple years. There is also a rumor that it will get a third theater. As for the random locations, it's likely the ride will get an upgrade to digital projectors when it gets a new film so this would open up the random possibility.

1. Sorian in Epcot is expected to receive another additional theater. Offices are being relocated as we speak.

2. Once the theater is finished the entire thing will shut down for upgrades to the other two OR the third one will run the new film while the other two get the new film. Most likely the first one.

3. All meant to be ready for 2016.

I think a new theather is fantastic news! I rode Soarin for the first time, shortly after it opened, and I remember waiting 4+ hours in line. Its been a few years since then and the wait time has not decreased. A new theater could hopefully move lines along much faster.

Disney isn't going to add another soarin in a different park. There are rumors of adding a third theater and upgrading the film. The new film is supposed to be more of over the world film.

Now that digital projection has finally grown up enough to achieve the brightness and resolution that would be needed for IMAX/Omnimax screens, I've been expecting that they would renovate and add in digital projectors that would work for Soarin'. That makes it also the perfect time for a new film - and even potentially a variable experience ala Star Tours: The Adventure Continues, although I have not heard of plans for such. It does allow for replacing the video much more easily.

I've heard rumors of the third theater, possibly having a corridor straight after the turn left/right for the different concourses, which would increase the capacity significantly. But whether they will open it first then close the other two, or only have one closed at a time, or have it all closed and refurb the halls, etc, remains to be seen.

Folks:
It will do you good when waiting to get on Soarin' to talk to your Cast Members. We were told of this almost 1 year ago. The big issue was filming. We were told cities such as NY would not allow the flying of the drone cameras due to Homeland Security reasons. I'm sure with a political donation to the party in charge that was remedied by now....for NY and other cities.

You have to take even CM comments about such things with a grain of salt...even they often repeat the same rumors we've heard elsewhere, and are not necessarily given that info from anyone on the inside. And even if they came from reliable sources, plans change too...

A new film has been rumored for several years now...

They've already filmed at least part of it and used a helicopter.

Think I've been to Disney enough to know to take CM comments with more than a grain of salt. At the time we were talking to non-uniformed CM/Managers as we waited for "top middle". I know all about the rumors for years....for this and other attractions.

I believe the film was cleaned up a few years ago. Don't recall if new projectors were apart of the project too. I know that fueled speculation that a new film was coming.

this is not true they are replacing sorin over California with a new movie but the ride it self will be the same. the movie is being filmed right now so who knows when it will be done let alone in the parks. I did hear that is was going to be around the world instead of just one place. I would be down to see that. I think this ride is amazing and great and it really does need a revamp but it does not need a second ride. also there is so much going on with star wars in hollywood that they cant afford the money or time on doing a second sorin
