Another silly AP & Room Discount Question

OK, still trying to make an AP work (since I'm not sure we'll have more than this one 8 day trip planned). Anyway, here's the question:

If I wait to buy the pass, and an AP discount comes out for the dates I'm traveling, can I buy the pass and have the discount applied to my room immediately through the same call? Or do I have to buy the pass on spec so that I have it if the discount comes out (and risk that there will be no discount I can use)?

I'm also assuming that I can't wait until I get to a park to upgrade my currently purchased tickets and then apply the AP discount to the room for the rest of my stay. Am I correct?

Does any of that even make sense?

We've never been asked to produce proof that we had an AP. I've just booked the room with the discount. The first time, I didn't have the AP with me when I checked in. I had to get it on my first day at a park. The front desk never asked me for it. And the next four trips, I had the pass with me, but was never asked to produce it.

My best guess would be that you're ok to book your reservation and upgrade your ticket when you get there. I don't know if I just dealt with CM's that didn't seem to care if I really had the AP, but I would think if they wanted to see your AP, they'd wait half a day until you exchanged/upgraded your existing ticket. If you were unable to produce then they'd change you to a rack rate.

Jaymie, you're my new hero! Thanks for the quick response, and this really helps make my decision a no-brainer! Particularly since I'll be staying my first night at a Value and don't really care about the AP discount there - so I'll have a really easy shot at upgrading my pre-price-increase Park Hoppers!

you dont need the AP to book the room, youre supposed to be asked to show it at check in so go ahead and book it and enjoy
