Another sewing machine question

Anyone know anything about/have any experience with the Janome Jem? If I remember correctly, that's supposed to be their "travel machine", intended to be used for classes or traveling or such.

DH has said there's no way we can afford the machine I *really* want (Elna Quilter's Dream) for at least 6 months and maybe not even by the next quilt show. But, we can probably afford the travel/craft machine, and that would at least let me get started and take some classes, and I could still use it for other classes *after* I get the Elna.

Thoughts? Experiences?

I have a New Home machine made by Janome. It sews like butter. Of course mine is a Memory Craft 8000 but I'll bet the smaller ones are pretty good. Why not try a few out at a good dealer. Then if you want, you could trade up at the same dealer. My machine was second hand because the previous owner wanted a memory craft 10,000.

Also, I was told to buy really good thread, Gutterman etc because that cheap WalMart stuff will ruin your bobbin area. I guess it's like most things, you get what you pay for.
