Another reason to LOVE the mods and values

When staying deluxe, the decison of where to stay is sometimes influenced by what parks you want to visist. Sometimes that may lead to a dilemma. For example, "I really want to stay at AKL, but plan to spend most of my time at MK." Location and proximity to the parks comes into play. At the values and mods it doesn't matter. You're far from everything and have to ride buses everywhere. Therefore, you can choose based on your true favorite resort!!!!!!

It was easy for us to choose POR for our next trip. It's the only mod we haven't tried. Parks and dining choices can come later.

Oohhhkay. So an advantage of the moderates is that they're not as convenient to any of the parks. Gotchya.

lol... I aggree i thought this post was a joke. Until i realized it wasnt. As well as not true. Many of the mods, and values are near Epcot, and MGM, as well as AK.

My primary reason for staying at a mod or value is MOOLAH. My kids are young (2,5) they do not care were we stay and it gives me more money to spend on the activities which is what they care about. Most of the time in our room we are just bathing and sleeping. Never stayed at a deluxe in WDW and once my kids are much older or DH and are visiting by ourselves will try one but for now, this works just fine for me. :cool1:

Well, I'm not sure it is a matter of joke versus not-joke. The reality is that the advantage of the moderate resorts over the deluxe resorts is that they're less expensive. The reality is that each set of resorts are priced so that their value propositions are roughly equivalent to each other, based on a broad view of supply, demand and other aspects of the market environment. There is no question that the Epcot deluxe resorts and the MK deluxe resorts provide a great benefit in terms of park access. How much any individual values that benefit may vary, but there is a nominal advantage that applies more broadly than a single individual. However, the deluxe resorts offer many such benefits, so may be a great value for guests even putting aside the location benefit -- i.e., considering "location quality" of the deluxes and the moderates to be the same, there still are aspects of the deluxes that may make the extra money worth it, for many people. By the same token, for many, cash money in one's own pocket has a greater value. That's why the smart folks at Disney offer us both!

The way I see it, it doesn't matter how close you are to the park. It's how long it takes to get to the park. For example, it takes 15-20 minutes to get to MK from All Stars. It takes 25 minutes to get to MK from the Contemporary, if you take the monorail. The reason, of course, is the monorail has to do the complete loop, including all stops, before it gets to MK. That I'm sure is why they made the walking path to MK. If one stayed at the Poly, there wouldn't be a lot of time saved. And of course, if one stayed at the GF it would take 25 minutes to get back to the GF from MK. So, if you are looking for convenient transportation, your best bet would be stay at a value or moderate and drive. However, if you drive to MK, then you have to get a tram, monorail, or ferry, so you've lost time there. On the other hand, if you are wanting ambience, nicer pools etc. the deluxe are great. But if you like the price of the values, hey, that's great too. Most people don't choose a resort for the proximity to the parks, because they go to all 4 parks plus water parks anyway.

Well, it surely is a matter of perspective. I think many folks consider the monorail part of the attraction. Similarly, when we're at WL, the boat ride is also part of the attraction.

I am the Op and I wasn't joking. We get really stressed out over where to stay sometimes and conveneince to the parks does affect our decision. Especially because we take very short trips and don't visit all the parks on every trip. It's true that some of the mods and values are closer to other parks than others, but it's not like the VERY quick boat ride to the MK from the Poly or walking into Epcot from the BC.

My whole point was the easiest decison we made this year was to stay at POR. We are still going back and forth over the BWI in Nov.
