Another reason not to fly in on day of departure (MCO)

My problem with carry-on only is that we have some large items that we must put in our carry-ons such as my dh's c-pap. I don't put the crucial stuff such as that and prescription meds in a carry-on suitcase either because I'm afraid the flight attendant will try to make me check it. I put them in a backpack that will fit under the seat. This means we usually have to check a suitcase. I always carry on at least one pair of underwear and socks for each person along with Shout wipes. That way if our luggage doesn't arrive we at least have the crucial items for one extra day and can buy t-shirts at the airport if necessary. It's ridiculous that things are such a mess that I have to take such precautions.

As for luggage delays, our luggage was delayed because of lighting on the tarmac at Boston Logan. We waited around for a few hours for our luggage but I couldn't blame them. At least our plane landed at the correct airport on time and we hadn't planned anything for after we landed.

I live in Phoenix. I try to never fly in or out after 4 pm due to monsoons that shut down flights. I've never flown into Florida in the Summer, but I'd probably try to avoid the afternoons. I did get stuck in Orlando for two days iin May 2011 due to tornadoes damaging planes in Dallas. Never would have crossed my mind flying from two cities with perfect Spring weather I'd be stuck for 2 days.
I think if you have to risk it early flight no connections is the way to go.
