Another RCL vs. DCL ?

Are the pools onboard RCL salt water or fresh? Also, are upgrades available to purchase at the port like Dcl? We have 4 kids and are looking into alternatives for Dcl. Anyone have any comments, good or bad, I'd love to hear them. Thanx.

RCCL is currently changing their pools to fresh water so it depends on when you go and if the ship has been changed over yet.

Yes RCCL does pier upgrades if they are avalaible

Hubby and I are DCL/RCCL fans, which ever one fits our vacation needs better. We love DCL, but when we want to go somewhere that DCL does not go (like Alaska) we choose RCCL. We like the newer RCCL ships...the big ones, Voyager, Explorer, Adventure, mariner, Navigator and Radiance, Serenade, Brilliance and Jewel (we also LOVE the Enchantment but that is a little older). If you have specific question I would love to answer them for you

We went on RCI last fall, it was on the Navagator, they had salt water pools. We like both lines, but the rooms are smaller on RCI, unless you go way up $$ the sleeping quarters are odd, bunkbeds above the main bed(s), meaning you all sleep close together.

Going on Enchantment and considering Mariner in 2006. Salt water for now. Enchantment is very similar in size to the Magic and does shorter itineraries (4 and 5 nights)

LibertyBelle . . . Do you know which ships have already flipped over to fresh water? My DD has a huge excema problem and I would love to try an RCCL ship with fresh water.

We are leaning toward Radiance in Alaska during summer of 2006.

I would call RCCL and ask the rep directly if the ship's pools are salt or fresh water. Also, you could check with Cruise Critic.com. I have seen some threads about the pool water question regularly.
