Another RCI question

I know for sure it was a 1 bedroom at SSR because it is still on my RCI account page as cancelled. The rep put my account as automatic confirm and I had to call them and switch it. Someone mentioned about closer to the date you may be able to get something with tpu's cut in 1/2. Anyone know about this?? I feel bad because of course I told our kids already we would be going so I want to use my tpu's, but I probably won't be able to. I am holding out hope that something works out!!

i've seen a few (but very few) last minute openings posted on TUG for DVC weeks that showed up within a week of check-in. most people don't have near that flexibility, though...that's why it's cheaper. i doubt you want to be sitting on your hands a week out with no confirmed reservation...

I would say that the possiblity of getting an onsite timeshare for October at this point is slim to none.

I'm not so sure about that. The most recent deposit, from last Monday, had mostly September, with some October at OKW.

The OP's problem is not availability---it is trade power. At 37, the OP has exactly enough for a Fall season studio at current pricing, but will not have enough for anything larger, barring what would effectively be a miracle.

If it really confirmed at 37, it was also mis-pointed, just as that OKW studio above was. That is VERY unusual---as in, I've never seen it personally. And, those who know me know what that means, as I check inventory very regularly.

This is very unlikely. This depends on (a) someone canceling at the very last minute---within a week or two of check in---and (b) no one having an ongoing search "in front of you". It can happen, but it's pixie dust, and not something you can count on.

I feel bad because of course I told our kids already we would be going so I want to use my tpu's, but I probably won't be able to. I am holding out hope that something works out!!

Here's the question: what will you do if your exchange doesn't come through? It sounds like "not go" is not an option, so you need to stay *somewhere*. The ONLY reason I would not rent from an owner is if you would let those TPU expire unused if this exchange doesn't happen, and even then you need to at least make a cancelable backup.

There are other RCI resorts with October availability. We stayed at Vacation Village at Parkway a couple of years ago. The units were beautiful, the pools were nice and the location is super close to World Drive (5 minutes tops). It does not have quite the "resort" feel of Wyndham Bonnet Creek with all the amenities and activities, but it is a great place to stay. There is alot of availability for October at low TPUs. TPUs are listed at the end of the line - all 7s and 8s.

nice location on the other side of I-4 from DTD and all of the villas there have been refurbished in the last few years.

if you don't absolutely have to be onsite at wdw, that would be a pretty good option (along with bonnet creek).

but unless you have another week that you want to combine with your current 37 pts to trade for a DVC week (or else just rent a DVC week for cash), i'd look into trading for an offsite option...

Bonnet Creek isn't available either. We want to go in October and want to stay on property to take use of all the benefits(EMH, transportation). We really have no other dates in mind because when we started this whole search we were told by 3 different RCI reps that we would have no problem exchanging!!

That may have been true when you started as DVC TPU has been going up steadily over time. Also, the reps at RCI are paid in some way to get you to put in an exchange and also if they can get you to accept an exchange sitting there. IF 37 is all you can get, you should look at other options.

And, since they started going up, DVC is no longer a "smart" exchange for me. Look at the TPU's above. Those are wonderful resorts and the TPU's are between 7 and 14. To me, the extra 30+ TPU's aren't worth it. I can take 3 extra weeks vacation somewhere else for that or rent a week to someone else and pay my maintenance/taxes for the year.

Having stayed at both VV@Parkway and Vistana, I'd take Vistana in a heartbeat, even at a slightly higher exchange cost. I was not impressed with the VV@P unit----it was mostly little things, but they added up to give a less-than-great vibe. For example, vertical blinds (that never really blocked the morning sun) rather than curtains. Vistana on the other hand was wonderful. There was a time when Vistana was to be avoided, as they'd fallen a little bit behind on their upkeep. But now that all sections have gone through their to-the-studs renovation, the resort is back on the list of places I'd be more than happy to stay.

That said, there was another DVC deposit either late yesterday or early today. Not many October units (and not many studios) but it's possible that the OP matched.

I was hoping for another resort, but am happy we got something. I have stayed at Vistana and Village of Parkway before and as nice as they are we are excited to be able to stay on site. We will be at the parks all day and not in the room but to sleep. Thanks for everyones advice on here.

In that case, this was a fine use for them---my "rent from owner" advice was predicated on having some other use of that deposit. Enjoy your trip!

At the end of last week there was virtually NOTHING on Disney property but on Monday they must have had a dump of rooms because there were studios, one and two bedrooms galore!!! But yes, the points needed are high now. As recently as last September I could get a 2BR at AKL Kidani for 26 points. Now they're up to 45 for a 2BR and 41 for 1BR.... Glad you got a match!!!

Oct 19th-26th! This is our first time going in the fall! We always go in May so I am beyond excited for Food and Wine and MNSSHP!! Let the planning begin!

Crazy question- can you get to your resort(SSR) and if they have 1 bedrooms available pay more to switch your RCI studio?? Probably not, but wouldn't hurt to ask right??
