so in this world of Farenheit 451, the book it is based on wouldn't exist because it would have been burnt...

Yess.. but this book was written like idk 50 years ago and was met to take place in the future aka. about 10 years ago. They describe these things called see shells that are the same premise of cellphones and the describe these walls which are giant microthin tvs that cover or replace the whole wall. The main character (montag) is a firefighter (whos all firefighters jobs are to burn books cause all house are fire proof). Books are illegal and when a siren rings montag goes out and burns down the house that contained the book(s). Now he got curious and piked up a book. Which led him 2 realize the arrogance to all the problems and false happiness in society. He became discusted that he burned boooks and changed. He wanted 2 be enlightened with knowledge (which no one in society ever really cared) He horded books and eventual yhis house got burnt down and went on the run. The books end in a nuculear bomb going off destrying a big city (i think chicago0 and montag is up in the hill with people on the run from the law for the same reason as him and they watch the town blow up. They end with a line that bascaly ment that they were gonna rebuild society and in the process enlighten them with the knowledge from the books

but then if it took place 10 years into the future, the book wouldn't exist anymore. My head hurts...

DYK, you don't drown because you've run out of breath, it's because the carbon dioxide build up in the blood becomes so much that you involuntarily breathe as your body thinks it will get oxygen but instead, you just draw water into the lungs and you go unconcious. If nobody finds your unconcious body in the next 10 seconds or so, then you die due to water in the lungs...

DYK that you can drown if you stay under a waterfall too long because the water particles in the spray get into your lungs...

Isn't learning fun?

Because it took a while to write such random trivia...

It wouldnt exist. This novel just shows what the author thought would happen in the future. ANd since the future to him is the past to us we just need 2 look at it in context

My head still hurts...

So he wrote a book about a possible future where the book didn't exist in the first place and now his possible future is in the past where the book does exist...

Think that makes sense...

Wasnt the titanic? I know spiderman opened the highest in theatres but i thought in total it was the titanic?

Gone With The Wind was released in 1939. If the ticket prices in 1939 were adjusted to the average ticket price of 2008 (which is 6.82? All movies around here are 9-10 dollars, but whatev), Gone With The Wind surpasses Titanic.

ok let me put this in nums it may help. He wrote it in 1950. Ok now hes thinking about what society would be in the future (arround 1990). THe book would exist since they did not say that books were not allowed in 1950. But that has nothing to do with it cause its an omniscent view as meaning that its like a movie you see everything and everyones thoughts

Oh, Farenheit 451. That was a choice for a book a few months ago. That, Lord of the Flies or 1984. I chose 1984.

George Orwell, George Orwell... what a guy. Animal Farm AND 1984. Two utterly delightful books.

Hmm well factor this in. Not alot of movies were able 2 be produced like they were today so the titanic could have stayed in theatres for mabe a year - 6 months. Plus that was hard times for the country and even less movies were able 2 be made then and many people would go to the movies to forget about the problems arround them

let 'em in on your secret hearrttt

I'm going to my mommy's house today, which means television and tasty dinner :D AND RAMONA!

I know exactly how you feel. My mom thought I was kidding at first, but then I pulled up all these online homeschool sites and rattled off a whole bunch of good things about homeschooling. She eventually gave in, so I say, keep trying.

I was always quiet and respectful to all the teachers. I always got good grades. I just could not stand the kids. They are SO SO SO immature and annoying. Honestly, I just wasn't on the same level as them. I was worried about college, and life. And they were gossiping about some girl who had a hole in her shirt. :sad2:

Glad I'm not the only one. I kept talking about how I wanted to be homeschooled at school today. One of the girls I know just looked at me oddly. I told her I mean like an online school. I know she was kidding but she just looked at me even more oddly and said "Freak".
Everyone I know always associates homeschooling to like, old times and everyone who is homeschooled it dumb. Which of course it definately not the case, you're here to prove it, but they still think it's stupid.

Gah, today was horrible.
Especially our history class. Everytime I go in there I see guys pushing each other, slamming each other into desks, and almost knocking over all this stuff in the room.
It gave me a huge headache and it's like that everyday. Then our teacher told us twice to be quiet. They of course didn't. He then proceeded to get really really angry and yelled at us again to be quiet.
You shouldn't have to be yelled at to be quiet. It just shouldn't happen. If they'd listen and be respectful and pay attention we wouldn't have these problems.

I am exactly like how you just stated. I do get good grades, and I'm always quiet in class. (Which somehow gives me the reputation of depressed for some reason? Just because I keep a straight face...it's how I am.)

They just are not the kind of people I want to hang around with.

Then I get all upset when I hear alot of them are making failing grades and I keep worrying about them when I should just worry about me. It just makes me sad that they are not even trying because I see them in class and they just blow it off or turn things in that aren't even completed because they didn't want to do it.

I want to be Homeschooled really bad too. If I told my parents about the online sites they'd just say, "you just want an excuse to be on the computer more or interacting with kids your age is good" I really don't want to be in regular school. All the kids are SO immature. It's not even funny. I'd probably enjoy learning more if I wasn't so distracted.

Gone With The Wind was released pretty much at the end of the economy crisis. If you want to go with that though; there were less movie theaters in 1939, therefore it was shown less often than Titanic was. Titanic was in the movie theaters a VERY long time; I believe they even extended the theatrical showings.

The 1930's actually brought about a LARGE increase of movies because more people were going to the movies, not only to escape the realities of their life, but also because of how cheap it was (around 5 to 10 cents). Color movies were debuted during the 1930's. Musicals were being produced for the screen as well.

I think my parents just believe it's stupid. Or that I don't need to be, I'm doing fine at my school.

The only thing is that I'd miss my organizations so incredibly much. I have met such cool people from around my state that I would've never met otherwise. I also make so many new friends from school I would've never talked to because of them, and they are so much fun. I'd probably cry about it, and that's the only thing I'd have a hard time letting go. Although I'm sure I might be able to still be in a few without actually attending my school.

::yes:: I don't have any true "friends" at my school.
