Hi all, I posted a parking question several days ago and you were all very helpful and quick with the answer. I really appreciate. Here is my next question.

We are driving from Philly and the plan is to get to the Universal Area the day before (but late) we are scheduled to check in at the Royal Pacific. Can anyone recommend a CHEAP, CLEAN hotel/motel nearby where we could just crash for the evening. A pool would a plus...but CHEAP AND CLEAN are the main requirements!

TIA!

what do you consider cheap?
what price range are we looking at?

i know many do price line for a cheap place before they stay on site.
would you consider doing that?

do you have AAA, Sam's club card, or discount cards?

Under a $100 would be good! We do have AAA, I just cancelled my BJ's membership though!

i did some searches and will list the websites for you to look at.
some have maps and indicate their locations to universal.

btw, when i stayed off site, i used the motels on caravan and major blvd.
but that was years ago. it is across the main street from the entrance to UO.

i stayed at the holiday inn on caravan in the above link.
those listings have prices by the name of the hotel.

this is what came up with google in my search:

if you glance thru some of the trip reports, you will see some of the hotels come up frequentily. double tree is one i see a lot of.

go to price line and put in a low price.
do your homework first and find a few places that you would like to stay at for the night.
then try the name your price places on the various sites.

i use kayak for my searching as i find better results with them.
but, not everyone wants to go thru that process.

since you have AAA, check with the hotel to see if they take it for discounts if it is not listed on their websites.
sometimes they do not update their hotel sites and they do allow the AAA for discounts.

or, call the hotel direct and ask if they have any specials for the dates you need the room. sometimes you get lucky and will get a great one night deal

Thanks for all the great information. I know we aren't going until August, but I want to know what I am doing ahead of time, especially with a 5 year old:goodvibes

i totally understand.
i always plan thoroughly also
and i do the same trip every year......:goodvibes

I saw a Comfort "Suites" running a special on expedia yesterday for $ 54.00 a night. You could also get this rate directly on the comfortinn web site. This is not the Comfort Suites closest to Universal, but the one which is about 2 miles south of Universal. Both Comfort "Inns" by Universal also had rooms around $ 70.00-$75.00 range. If you check www.ComfortInn.com web site it will give you all the choice hotels in the Orlando area.
