I found some good prices from Rockford to Sanford on Allegiant. What can you tell me about them? Do you choose your seats when you book or is it like Southwest and AirTran where you get them 24 hrs in advance? Do they change flight times alot like I've heard AirTran does? Anything else good or bad? Thanks again!!!

We flew in Feb on Allegiant from Worcester, MA. I thought the airline was great and we would definitely fly them again. We did pay to choose our seats because of DD3. She's a kicker, and we put her behind DS7. :teeth: We chose the seats when we booked, and they were the seats we sat in on the plane. Nothing got switched.

I can't say if your flights will be ontime given that it's a different airport. The ones in Worcester sometimes get delayed for fog or high wind. It's a location thing, not an airline problem.

Allegiant is not a cattle call like Southwest. You can choose to pay $10 per person per flight ($20 round trip per person) to select seats when you book. DH and I never do but we don't take the kids with us to Vegas, and don't care if we sit apart. Even so, on both trips we were able to sit together no problem, we were assigned seats when we checked in at the airport and the flights were completely full.

be warned that nothing is free on the flight, a can of Pepsi is $2, pre-packaged snacks were $2-$4 each.

otherwise, we like Allegiant, flights have been on time and the non-stop aspect of it is great! I always plan on 2 flights to get anywhere, it's a treat to not have a layover. I wish they flew everyday instead of 4 days a week, and would love it if they could expand to offer more than one flight a day, but that's not their business plan right now. everything is a 1 shot out and back from either Sanford or Vegas, so no crew layover costs to pay for.

If we were planning on renting a car anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to use Allegiant into Sanford. We paid a little more for flights into MCO, but have better arrival times and are not getting a car, just using ME, so cost is a wash.

Thanks for the input. I'm leaning heavily to using them for the first time in August from Portsmouth, NH. Would save me time and $$$.

Cheers!

We flew Allegiant in December and thought it was great. It's the only direct flight from Des Moines. It was so nice to only get on one plane and be there in three hours rather than leaving at 6 am to get there at 2 pm.

We paid the $10 to get to pick our seats. So we were at the front of the plane which was nice at the end of the flight when exiting.

We are using Allegiant again in June.

Sanford is a very quiet airport. We were driving out the airport with our rental car in about 10 minutes as we only had carry-ons and we arrived at 9:00 at night so noone was in line at Alamo.

We are renting a van from Alamo in June for one night to get us from Sanford to the Boardwalk. We'll drop it off at the Dolphin car center the next day. It's only costing us $38.

great idea! I keep forgetting this is an option as well. we need to keep direct flights from DSM in business!!!

flew them in January- liked them better than SW- when you check in- you get your seats assigned, no problem! no extra $$$ either....
