Our family may want to stay in a villa for 1 week. However, should we only have 1/2 the points required - what are our options?
Thanks for replying!!!

Pay cash for the weekend dates. For a week at OKW in May in a 1 bedroom, it's 196 points. However, Sunday to Thursday nights is only 100 total.

ANOTHER QUESTION??? Aren't you aware that you are only allowed ONE?

Seriously, there are a several options.

One is to bank unused points forward to the next use year, and go then. To do that, you need to be conversant with banking, and especially banking deadlines.

The second is to borrow points from the next use year. You can borrow up to 100% of next year's points at any time during the use year.

The third is to go on the Rent/Trade forum of this website and rent points from another DVC member. When you are in DVC and renting from another member, it is a nice, clean transaction. You give them money, they call member services and transfer the points from their account to yours. To do that, you need to understand what happens to points transferred between accounts, and you need to avoid problem points like "Holding status" and "reservation" points.

I'm not an expert in this, but someone like Dean or Caskbill or tjkratz or CarolMN will probably answer your question better shortly.

Or, if you're arriving on a Friday or Saturday night, consider using a studio for the first night, stay at a value resort, stay off-site or the cash option, or the cash option in a studio, or see what kind of discount you can get at the other resorts if you've purchased an Annual Pass. Or borrow the points from your next use year (which is a great idea until you use those up too). Or rent. Sometimes a DVCer will have last-minute use points they can't use and that you can get at a really good deal.

What was said earlier about using fewer points by eliminating the weekend nights is correct--really cuts down on the point cost.

again for replying.
I must say this board to so awesome. I cannot believe that total strangers take so much time out of their own schedules to submit the most detailed and helpful posts to another stranger!
Thank you so much!

Just remember you are obligated to do the same if you become a member. ;)
