another question about tipping?

When you attend character meals that are served buffet style, and the server really only brings drinks and takes away your dirty plates, do you still tip the full 18 - 20%? Or do you tip less since they aren't having to do as much?

I'm not trying to jip the servers at all, but I don't want to overpay either. I'm interested in others opinions about the right thing to do.

I tip 20% at buffets. While it may seem that the server is just removing plates and bringing drinks, figure how much time is devoted to that. For me, the premise it the same, I may get my food but the server must check my table and keep it clean, refill beverages and ensure that my family's dining experience is enjoyable. I feel in return for that attention I will tip the 20%. I feel that buffet service is a lot more work for the server.

I tip 20% for good/great service at any type of restaurant. And less when the service isn't good.

I don't understand the waitresses do less work at buffets argument anyway :confused3 They still refill drinks and take away dirty plates ( which depending on party size and amount eaten can be a lot) and empty glasses.

The buffets we go to don't really even have wait staff, so I don't tip. And be carefull not to double tip. I know the buffet and Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel includes the tip.

Isn't the gratuity already included in the price for all character meals? I know ours was, but it wasn't buffet.

Gratuity is not included in any meals except CRT (and perhaps one more place, I am sure someone will clarify).

Parties of 6 or more are automatically "charged" an 18% gratuity, all others are given a "suggestion", calculated at both 18% and 20%, however they are free to leave whatever they see fit.

We always tip 20%+, no matter if it is at Disney or not or if it is a TS or Buffet experience.

At DL tips are included in the price. All taxes and tips are included. If we have a server we still leave extra but at most buffets in DL (the ones I've eaten at anyway) the servers do not bring anything and usually don't even take dirty plates away. So no, we don't tip in those instances. I'm guessing that DW is different but I've never been so I don't really know....

Okay, three points:

First, the OP seems to be referring to Walt Disney World where, with rare exceptions, the tip is NOT included in the price of the meal (kimsuenew - in addition to CRT, the price of the various dinner shows includes tax and tip, but that's IT, just those three or four locations total) - not to DisneyLand. If that's where she's going, I apologize in advance.

Second, and this applies to any buffet, not just at WDW/DL: A location that seems to 'not really have any wait staff', actually does.

Which brings me to point three: Think about it this way. If 'all' the buffet server does is bring drinks and remove empty plates - alternatively, imagine dining at a buffet where nobody brings drinks (but you can't get your own) and nobody removes empty plates from your table. NOW, tipping at the same rate as at any menu service restaurant seems much more reasonable :)
