Another question about point usage

I have a question, prompted by the recent thread on points and end of year. I'm in the process of buying a resale at OKW. The use year is March. The owner has not used his 2002 points but did not bank until recently so was only able to bank 120(1/2) points. My understanding from the agent was that I could use the other 120 before 3/01/03. I don't have a closing date yet but they're going to try to get it done before the end of the year. I was planning on using the points at Disneyland in mid January for a trip we already had planned. Will I lose these points if I was going to make the reservation the beginning of January for mid january? Is there anything else I can do? Can the current owner make a reservation for me -- even at WDW for December or January? I was planning a trip before Christmas but staying at a moderate. Help..... I don't think I understand all these rules.

Interesting scenerio.
You would fall into the 60 day rule (not being able to do it) for your January trip, unless you can book the trip before January 1st. I think having the previous owner making the resie may be a good idea.
Good luck...

PS- You will not lose the points; You just can not book through The Disney Collection, but you can still use them at the DVC resorts before March 1st.

You cannot have the owner make a reservation for you since Disney cancels all outstanding reservations before the closing to assure that the points they have certified are available.

You won't be able to reserve a non-DVC reservation during the last 60 days (after Jan 1), but you can still try to make a reservation at a DVC resort during that time.

You should be able to get something onsite in January without much problem...and even Feb is not beyond reach.

Good Luck!

Thanks --- looks like I'll need to see if I can change airfare from LA to Orlando. One of the perks of the contract was getting these "bonus" points. They aren't much bonus if I can't use them.

The 60 day restriction makes sense if you understand what happens when you book at a NON-DVC resort. The points you use are used by CRO to book a DVC resort and sell it to a non-member. When you only give them 60 days or less, it limits CRO's ability to make use of those points...thus they would get nothing and you get a room at one of their hotels...fine for you-not a good deal for them...

If mnmom22 can't make it to Florida before before March 1st...

Would it be worthwhile to use those 120 points to book a week in an Adventure Season 1BR at OKW (160 points, so 40 points would need to be borrowed), and then to deposit that week with Interval International (through DVC MS)? Or even to do so with an OKW studio (80 points)?

Because the deposit would be within 60 days, it would only yield a Flexchange (within 60 days) exchange -- but with some flexibility and luck, it could be turned into a full week in a very nice Interval International timeshare resort somewhere, with a full year to look for such an exchange.

If this works, it would certainly be better that losing 120 points entirely.

Would this work? Do I understand the rules correctly? Dean? Anyone else?
