I'm getting a show quality Golden Retriever pup at the end of the summer. The pup will be a male and his call name will be Walter! (Named for guess who!?!) So, I need help finding a registered name. The American Kennel Club allows 28 characters, that includes spaces. No numbers, vulgarity, etc. Still with me? OK, here is the sticky part. With show dogs, the kennel is the first part of the name, and as often occurs with show dogs, there is a 'theme' to the litter. Breeders sometimes do this so that they instantly know which pup came from which breeding. So anyway, the theme on this litter is Jimmy Buffett songs. :sad2: After the kennel name, that leaves me with only 16 characters. Anything Disney related would be a bonus. :thumbsup2
The song "Pencil Thin Mustache" mentions Disneyland by name (and Walt had a pencil thin mustache), but is way over the letter requirements. I would have to spell it like this "PenclThnMustache" with no spaces :rolleyes2 and I'm not sure I like the way that looks. HELP!!!

I'm not a Buffet fan, but I like what you wrote in the OP, sounded fine to me (or you could do PncilThnMustache). :thumbsup2

When we register our dogs, we keep the first name of the last dog as the new dog's middle name, then add a common name at the end, unique to our family. I think it's a nice tradition. So maybe think ahead to future dogs you might have, too. paw:

By the time this pup comes, I will have lost two dogs. My Corgi died unexpectedly from cancer/renal failure last week :sad2: , and I have a 12+1/2 year old GSD who is horribly crippled from hip dysplasia and will have to be put down soon. :sad2: This coming pup is my saving grace right now.
I wanted to do a Disney theme for this pup, but I'm having trouble making this fit. Thanks!

Floridays is on my short list! You can see from my above post *points up* that I'm having a bad time with my geriatric dogs right now, and the lyrics of Floridays certainly applies to how I feel:

"I'm back to livin' Floridays
Blue skies and ultra-violet rays
Lookin' for better days "

I goggled songs by Jimmy Buffet and here are a couple:

Little Miss Magic

Jolly Mon sings

Yep, Defying Gravity is one!

I'm sorry about your Corgi :sad1: and your GSD. :sad2: I lost a brother/sister GSD pair not too long ago just a little while apart (the male was on wheels). So sad. We started our naming tradition when those two were pups, had just lost another GSD right before they came along. Wanted to keep a bit of "kinship" between our dogs even though they'd never actually met. Good luck with whatever you decide. Would love to see pics when you get him!!

P.S. The 2yo female in my siggie was my saving grace (although she's a bit  ) LOL. Her name is Liesl.

Great! I'll put Defying Gravity on the short list!

I googled Jimmy Buffet songs...I think that was the title of an album, but I didn't look at it very long.

It would definitely be easier to pick out a Manilow song, I agree! :thumbsup2 CH Made It Through the Rain has a nice ring (and his call name could be Sunny). :teeth:

Do you mind if I use your pets in our calendar - they're beautiful!

For a girl, I would pick "I Write the Songs" and call her "Lyric". "Daybreak" could be called "Breaker", "One Voice" could be "Solo", "When October Goes" could be "Autumn"... the possibilities are endless! :rotfl:

Sure, you can use the pics. I had some kitty pics on your other thread. Let me know how I can buy a calendar, ok?

I'm so sorry to hear about your Corgi and your GSD. I lost one of my collies 2 1/2 years ago and one just over a year ago. It is so hard to watch them get old.

I have a 4 year old collie, call name Jasmine. Her AKC name is C&J (kennel name) Brandon's (my DS) magic flying carpet. To make it fit on the form, we made no spaces. It really doesn't matter though. You probably are going to be the only one to see his "papers", and when you show him, just write it with spaces and thats how it will be put in the catalog. I do it all the time.

Our new dogs name is Bella. I'm trying to think of an AKC name for her too.

I don't have any suggestions but Good Luck with your new pup.

Thanks! I've had to do the creative spelling trick in the past with previous dogs. Griffin is "Snowcloud SilverLining Griff" I just couldn't make Griffin fit, but since he was purchased on a spay/neuter contract, it really didn't matter.
Do you show in conformation, obedience, agility?

Update!!!

AKC increased the registered names from 28 total characters to 30! Therefore, after I use the kennel name, I have enough letters to go with:
Pencil Thin Mustache!!! That was my first choice! :wizard: :thumbsup2 I have to leave the spaces out, but I can use all of the letters.

Thanks for all of the suggestions :grouphug: ! I'll post pictures when I get him later this summer.
