Ok, so before I found out I was pregnant I was sick for a week. So naturally being sick I lost a few pounds.
Then I found out I was pregnant and went to the doctor and they weighed me. I was 112. For the past 3 weeks I have been sick sick sick....but this time it's because I'm preggers. So anyway, I weigh myself last night at the supermarket and I now weigh 108.

So needless to say, I am a little scared because I lost weight and am sure to keep losing at the rate I am going. I have a doctos appointment tomorrow. Is there anything they can do for me as far as the sickness goes and the weight loss? Or do I have to try to keep what little bit of food I do eat down?

Sorry if TMI-tried to be tactfull about it.

I know in extreme case of morning sickness, they will prescribe medication to help with that. I don't know what it's called but I do know that it is available.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain now.........believe me...............it will find you later!!! :earseek:

I wouldn't worry too much bout the weight loss right now since it seems you're pretty early in your pregnancy. Most of the weight gain will happen in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

When I was pregnant with my first, in the 2nd trimester, for 3 months I didn't gain any weight, in fact I lost some weight. But since the baby was growing steadily, my doctor wasn't worried at all.

Eat some crackers and drink some ginger ale. It'll help with the nausea.

The baby will get what it needs first. Don't worry. I always weighed less after delivery than when I get pregnant. I never had any pregnancy weight to lose.

My metabolism always kicked in to overdrive when I was pregnant and the morning, noon and night sickness didn't help. By the end of six weeks I had lost 8-10 pounds. After my 1st trimester I started to slowly gain weight. By the last month I was quickly gaining weight.

My children weighed:

1. 9lbs. 1oz.
2. 9lbs. 1oz.
3. 6lbs. 9oz.

Your dr. will do what he/she thinks is best for you and your baby. Don't worry and congratulations.

Don't worry about it. I know plenty of women who lost weight in their first trimester due to morning sickness, then gained it all back along with baby weight during the rest of the pregnancy. Personally, I maintained my weight, not gaining any until I was done with morninng sickness.

Check with your doctor, but sometimes a little extra vitamin B6 (in addition to your pre-natals) will help with morning sickness. Another thought is that eating smaller meals more often (like 6 half meals instead of 3 regular) is helpful.

And if you feel ill first thing in the morning, try keeping a few cracker next to your bed & eat them before you even get out of the bed.

Congratulations & I hope this passes quickly for you.

I was very sick with each pregnancy. There are two medications that I'm familiar with...Phenergan and Zofran. The phenergan made me very sleepy. The Zofran was wonderful. I still felt nauseous but I never got sick.

Don't worry about the weight loss...as long as baby is growing. The most important thing is to stay hydrated. Try to get little sips of liquid throughout the day. If you find that your prenatals make you nauseous try taking them at night before bed.

Good luck and congratulations!!!

For nausea try Sea Bands. They go on your wrists and worked for me. Also I chewed gum, sugarless. ;) The extra saliva you make while chewing gum helps settle the stomach. I had lots of nausea and it was the worst. Make sure you tell your dr!!! And save this post for your third trimester when the dr is yelling at you to stop gaining! :)

Hugs...I know how you feel. I was sick my entire pregnancy with DD. Doc finally put me on meds and it helped...dont remember what it was called though. You will be fine...just talk to the doc tomorrow.

My last pg I was sick the whole time :( Sick to my stomach all day and throwing up atleast 1-3 times a day. I lost weight my entire pg. I weighed less at the end than at the beginning but my ds was growing and gaining just like he should have been. I wasnt dehydrated or anemic just sick enough to be miserable the whole time.

Here in Canada, the drug is called DICLECTIN. It works wonders! I was sick with all 3 of them and this did the trick for me!

Gwene, you are very small but losing weight in the first trimester should not worry you or your doctor. I always maintain or lose, but not due to sickness, usually just due to eating better.

I gained 15 pounds with my son so I actually lost weight during pregnancy. Your baby gets what it needs first then you get what's left. So make sure you eat. If it stays down for a little while then you have had time to get some nutrition off of it.

I am having a problem of non-cravings where I can't find something I want to eat so I am finding it hard to eat enough right now. Ice Cream though is a sure bet - so if you really want to gain some weight, eat ice cream. Its usually a no no for those gaining too much during the first trimester, seems to me you have a green light to go and eat it. Yogurt is really helping me right now too.

I am definately coming out of the woods this past week and definately this week. I am finding my appetite again and I am not as tired. So it gets better. I am entering my 11th week.

The first trimester I lost 15lbs and I didn't have morning sickness either (atleast I never got sick). I made up for it in the 2nd and 3rd.

I also lost 15lbs in the beginning. I was sick every morning for 7 months. I started putting on weight in the 4th month.

I lost weight in the first trimester with all 3 of my kids.

Try the Sea Bands first. I used them with my youngest son and they did help. :)

It'll probably get worse before it gets better. But remember..you've got a wonderful surprise coming in a few months that will totally make up for the horrendous morning sickness. :)

Now, I'm assuming your employer lets you eat when you need to. Don't worry about the baby not getting what he/she needs if this is the case. As long as you eat when you're hungry and eat healthy stuff instead of junk, the baby will most likely be just fine.

::yes:: ::yes:: I was put on phenergan when I was pregnant with Belle - I hated it! It would knock me flat on my bum, of course I wasn't sick, I was too tired to be anything! I also ahd zofran with this last pregnancy, it was great! I did get dehydrated so I was sent to the cancer center, they did an IV (those women were great, it was the fastest least painful IV I've ever had!) and they gave me reglan in the IV then brought me a huge tray of food - OMG it was heaven, it was the first meal in weeks I'd been able to hold down.

Check with your doctor about meds if you're really miserable! I wouldn't have made it through the first trimester (and part of the second) without the meds.

Good luck!

Gwen,

I hope you're feeling better :)
Every pregnancy book I've read says it is common to lose weight at first. Also the protaglandins that cause the morning sickness act worse on an empty stomach, so if you wake up in the middle of the night, have a few crackers or something and see if that helps. It seems to help a lot of women.
Good luck! :)
