Does anyone have any experience with a child who has been potty trained and then totally lost interest?

DD has been trained for several months now, including at night. She would go to the potty by herself or would tell use she had to go.For the last 2 weeks she has just lost interest. She will just pee any where! She would poop fine though. Now the last 2 days she has started pooping in her panties too.

She will go fine if we take her. She doesn't put up a fight or act like anything is hurting, etc. I am thinking that this might have started with pull-ups. We went to MIL and used them more than normal. So now she has regressed because she has gotten use to them. I have stopped using them, but I don't know how to get her interested again.

Any advice? Thanks! :)

Yikes. Those pull-ups are more trouble than they are worth. As I suspect you know, time and consistency are what you need to get past this. No more pull-ups, ok?

You might consider getting DD checked to make sure she doesn't have a urinary tract infection or anything that could be the root of the problem.

Good luck. I've been there.

I don't have any experience with this, personally (DS is 3.25 and has zero interest in potty training), but I have many friends who have experienced this. It's very common. The novelty may have worn off, and the Pull-Ups may have reminded her that it's easier to go in her pants.:(

Maybe try a reward system (no accidents for the day and she gets a special treat.) Good luck!

How old is your child?

It's very common with kids to be trained, then go through a spell of lots of accidents. Like you said, they loose interest, they novelty has worn off, or they want to be a "baby" again.

Personally, I wouldn't go back to pull ups. I'd keep reinforcing "you're a big kid now." I'd point out the differences, "babies can't do xxx, only big kids can..."Don't punish her, but show her that you are disapointed when she has an accident. Have her help you with the clean up.

Good luck! My own dd was tough to train, too. All of a sudden, everything just "clicked", including night time training.

Now mind you this was a VERY long time ago when I was potty training my kids, but my son had the biggest problem with it. At the time, there was a toy that he wanted VERY badly. So I got it, and hung it up on the wall, still in the package, and he couldn't have it until he was using the potty. It worked like a charm. Good luck with whatever works for you!
