The CM at MS told me that if you mix points and cash on a ressie for a 2-bedroom unit you must change rooms. Since our vacations always have us arriving on saturdays we would have a weekend day at the beginning of our trip and and a weekend day at the end. (our check out day is always saturday as well). This means we would have to move to a different unit twice during the week? Forgive me but I just don't see the reasoning for this. Can someone explain it to me? Is there anyway not to have to do this? And also do they only do this with the 2-bedroom rooms? What if you want to mix cash & points for a 1-bdrm or a studio? Still have to move? Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this. Being a newbie I'm not up on all of the rules yet and this one really has me confused. For our trip in december we are using all points for our 2-bdrm and cash for the other units. We really wanted to save money and points by mixing them but were told we would have to change rooms. I'm just wondering why they do this.

We always use points from Sun-Friday and cash for weekends in 2 bedroom. We have never had to change rooms.

Where are you trying to book the 2 bedroom? Are you tryin gto book a special type of 2 bedroom? If so, that could be the problem.

For example, the 2 bedroom units with two queens in the second bedroom at BCV are not available for cash bookings. They ae reserved for members using points.

Boardwalk view rooms at the BWV are another type of room that is not availble to be booked for cash.

Best wishes -

We just wanted a 2 bedroom that we could pay cash (even rack rate) for the two weekend days and use our points for sunday through thursday. The CM told me with the exception of the lock-offs which are reserved with points only we would always have to change rooms if we don't book with either points OR cash. I see from disneymagic316's reply that this doesn't always happen so I'm wondering why MS told me that. We would hate to book the room that way and end up having to pack up and move twice in one week. Do you know if that's the case with 1-bedroom and studio units as well? We could always book them separately if we can stay put doing it that way. Thanks.

We always stay at Old Key West and I'm notorious for switching between points and cash on weekends. We've NEVER had to change rooms and I would probably go a bit crazy if someone suggested it. You're right; there's no logic to having to switch rooms. Keep pushing and ask for the reservations to be linked so you don't have to keep getting new room keys.

We always mix points and cash and have never had to switch rooms either.

You should be able to stay continuously if you rent your cash night through MS. If you go through CRO, you may or may not have to move. But you will have to check out and re-check in. +

Thanks for all of the input everyone. We were booking the whole reservation through MS and Tara told me that we could not stay in the 2-bdrm unit the entire week if we mix cash & points. I went ahead and booked the 2 bedroom unit with all points and the rest of the rooms separately with member cash. Just wondering what the reasons for moving are so I would know for next years trip. Armed with your information hopefully the CM will be kind and let us do this. We wouldn't mind having to check out and check back in as long as we can stay in one room the entire time. Those weekend points are brutal. LoL We just joined so adding more points isn't possible right now.

Everyone looks at it differently and there's no right or wrong. That's the beauty of DVC--it gives you flexibility to do what makes sense foy YOU. We often switch to cash on weekends and, if you don't mind the cash outlay for a room (hopefully with a member discount) you effectively double the amount of time you can stay.
